Just have to add that there is the 6th variant coming through Minnesota. This one seems to be the Delta and Omnicrom (sp) combination as near as I can figure out. Well my son and wife both have it. DIL is nurse and has been working with covid patients over these years. We spend some holiday together and they left for home Monday morning and I left on Monday later in the morning. Four other members of the family left Monday afternoon.

Son became ill slowly with a sore throat and cold and ended up in ER with bad cough on Sat. No pneumonia but he is high risk as he has bad Hashimotos, Chronic fatigue syndrome and Fibromyalgia. he is lucky that is all he has as Mayos thought he had Leukemia or Lymphoma at first due to his crazy blood work which straighten out. They put him on the 5 day antiviral. He has had both his Pfizer vaccinations. DIL felt ill the next Wed and had neg test..got up Thursday and did a test prior to going in to work as nurse. She was positive. By Thursday she was having some problems with her breathing. She had problems with her breathing and flu symptoms 1 1/2 years ago when she had bad covid the first time. She later had the Pfizer vaccines and one booster.. Son had to take her to ER and she is on the antiviral med for 5 days also.

I have not been sick....one J& J vaccination 15 months ago. The other 4 relative from one family all are unvaccinated and had covid this past September. They have not gotten covid yet either. Does any of this make any sense??? I do not think so. The incubation period is supposed to be quicker and this variant is to spread faster than any of them. People with vaccinations got the covid. One with different vaccination didn't get covid and 4 people unvaccinated with past history of covid have not gotten the covid this time.

This makes me think this whole covid 19 is an immunologists nightmare plus what good are the vaccines at some time with some people. I am getting sick of the whole shooting match as are the rest of the country. I am on a high monthly dose of IVIG since 2006 and sometimes I wonder if that is a protection....but then I haven't found much research to cause me to have a positive opinion about this. Anyone else got a covid story that strikes you as hard to understand. meirish

In my immediate family....14 of us, we never got any vaccines and none of us has had Covid either. Few of our friends had gotten vaccines....different brands....different number of boosters and some of these have gotten ill. Besides not working to keep you Covid free....they have potential SE.

Me and my husband have so far been ok. We always wear our masks and plastic gloves. God bless all of you, and stay safe and healthy.
We have been busy just keeping things going, and taking care of each other. My husband had to have some wound treatments on one his legs. We both had good A1C's, but his legs are very fragile. I have continued to lose weight.
It has been very hot here as many others have dealt with. I use my sunscreen a lot these days. I try to do exercises to tone up some.
I get to see my son more often with a calming of the covid, but it's starting up again.

I had the covid on June 14 and spent a couple of weeks in quarantine at my senior living. Dr. put me on the Pazlovid and that seemed to keep me from getting terrible sick. Ended up with bad sinus and lung infection and was put on antibiotic.

My kidney function isn't good anyway and my creatinine went up so I was taken off of my metformin and also have no had my IVIG since May. I had my creatinine done and it is down but not low enough to start any diabetes meds or to restart me IVIG. I have been getting along better than I expected without the IVIG. Time will tell.

Hope everyone is doing ok. WE don't seem to get rid of this darn covid. Only 8 people have had covid since this latest batch is going around out of 90 people in our facility. Have to wear a mask except when we eat in the dining room. The air exchange in on so I think that helps.

Our county is pretty full oof the covid so I think most of us don't get out a whole lot. Which is also good as it has been so darned hot in Minnesota. Take care all of you. meirish

We have done well with the vaccines including the boosters. This area still has high numbers so we have always worn our masks. I stopped wearing the gloves but still go through a lot of hand sanitizer. We do everything we can to protect ourselves and others.

It's been pretty unpredictable for me.
First vaccine: I wasn't in a flare and it only made me mildly sick.
First booster: I wasn't in a flare and got VERY ill for over a week.
Second booster: I was in a flare and, not only did I not get at all sick, but my flare disappeared.
Unpredictable for me!

No boosters here.

My husband got the J and J and didn't continue. I held off entirely due to my ITP (low platelets).  Reduced platelets is a documented potential side effect and I already have that. Probably an unlikely one, but a real one.

I'm on a social media page for ITP. There has been at least a fair amount (if not more) of new activity and many of those believe they got  ITP from the vaccine, and particularly the booster. Keep in mind that ITP is classified as a rare disorder.

I WISH I was exaggerating, but someone I know VERY LIKELY got sicker with her ITP after the booster in particular. What I'm saying is as far as I know, nothing else "different" was going on in her life. Each vax caused problems, but the booster seemed to be very detrimental. No meds would work for her ITP after the booster and getting very sick and she got extraordinarily ill and passed away.

Here is something EXTRA interesting.
My husband and I got Covid around Fourth of July this year fir the first time.

He is 70 ish. I'm 60 ish. He was very sickly fir two days. Slept. The third day just tired. He was somewhat sickly for a week. No meds. I think his Covid test was negative in about 10 days.

I was more sick with a high fever. I was given Paxlovid that stopped the fever almost in its tracks. Had a sinus "thing" with a low grade temp and was given a z pac.

I was sickly fir about 10-12days. And didn't have a negative Covid test for two weeks total.

Husband is not interested in a booster.

Anyway, here is the most interesting thing: my platelet count went up to low normal. Yay! This is good for me. Omg. Happy about this!!!!! I hope it lasts for awhile. For me, the increased platelet count is a welcome side effect.

A nice handful of friends are unsure if they will take a booster or the next booster. There seems to be several. Possibly...just very unsure. They haven't ruled it out, but it's not a "given" either.
SLE, Sj.  Syndrome, IC, Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, ITP (low platelets)... Various meds and lots of vitamins. Trying to eat healthy; seems to help a little.

Hubby and I have each had vaccine plus 3 boosters, mixed brands. Worst side effect was a sore arm, which I had for 2 shots, he didn't have at all. Neither have ever tested positive nor had any symptoms. I still follow PPE, he no longer does.

In my immediate circle, I have 6 friends who all work in health care and have been fully vaxxed for the requirements at the time, who have tested positive. 2 of whom had mild to moderate symptoms, the others were symptom free.

Of friends who don't work in health care, several have tested positive, some vaxxed, some not. Overall it appeared that the adults had moderate symptoms for up to a week, while their children, if they were down at all, were down for a day. Only 4 were admitted to hospital.

One neighboor, fully vaxxed, had moderate symptoms, but 6 months later was diagnosed with "long Covid" and is experiencing many of the same symptoms as I have with chronic autoimmune, primarily fatigue, neuropathy and joint/muscle pain. Her hubby, not vaxxed, spent 3 weeks in ICU, ventilated for 3 days.

Early days, prior to vaccine, I lost 2 old friends to very severe Covid, and one of those families also lost 3 other members.

Thanks for the interesting update on covid and the vaccines. Hard to keep up with what to do as it changes all the time as do the variants.

Really sorry to hear of you losing friends and so many family members. Take care and hope you are staying well. meirish

I just had my third booster this past Monday.  It was the Pfizer one for Omicron.  No side effects except the place where I had the shot.  Not like I haven't had this affect before.  It is lumpy, red and itchy.  I know it will go away in a few days.  However, where I had the flu shot 10 days ago, it bruised and is going away.

Needed to get it all done before my cervical surgery on December 15.

I lost my last try so I will try again.

Me and my husband last Saturday were beginning to cough with sore throats. I was feeling. Miserable so he took me to the clinic. They tested me for flu, strep, and covid. It was covid. He went in and has it too.

She put me on Lagevrio, doxycycline, and a steriod. He on Lagevrio which was hard to find, amoxcillin, and a steriod shot.

Our fevers have stopped, and we are feeling better.

All this after the past few years of no covid vaccines nor boosters,, but always wearing masks and gloves.

All I can figure is not long ago a couple of unannounced people came to our back door so we didn't have those things on and one hugged me. Who knows!

It's all a mystery.

Sorry to hear that you got Covid but have to tell you that this variant is extremely infectious. I live in independent living in a facility that has many assistive living, memory care and a care unit for people who need care during post hospitalization, surgery, hospice, etc.

WE have had a lot of covid in the past 3 months but we manage to keep it down to low numbers at one time. WE have about 100 beds here so when we get a case and it starts in we have to wear masks at all times plus we can't eat with 4 at a table-only 2 to a table and they cut down on some of the activities. These measures seem to work as it manages to keep the numbers of sick people quite low. They also do nasal swabs every other day a lot of the time til the spread is contained.

The problem with having such a high numbers of people living here is that if they all got sick at once there would be no way that our small staff could care for them. Everyone with Covid is put in 10 days of isolation or quarantine and that means if staff needs to care for the them they need to wear gowns, masks, goggles, etc. plus these people need their meals usually at least 2 times a day and meds passed. This all makes an enormous amount of work for staff. Ten people at a time is tolerable for staff.

All of these people had the bad sore throats as pretty much their first symptom. Some were hardly sick at all and some felt pretty lousy for 4-5 days and then improved. Our state has a lot of rules that facilities and nursing homes, etc have to follow so that is good as it gives people the information needed to deal with a "chronic" infection like this.

Sound like your doc has given you folks medication that helps settle things down some. Fatigue is common so with this weather just resting and staying warm and eating right plus fluids is important. Hope you can get over this in a hurry.

Hope you have had a good Christmas in spite of all the things going on in your lives.  AS we get older it seems that we still have a lot of stuff that continues to interrupt of lives and keep us on our toes. Stay warm and safe and I think we all need to pay for patience cause it seems like this could be a long winter. God Bless. meirish
