Hello, hope all of u are well..

Im back with another issue..its terrible rectal pain. Ive never had this up until 6 months ago, so its a fairly recent symptom. Its such a bad pain and causes me a lot of discomfort when it attacks. Usually I get them before, during & after bowel movements. But sometimes they're unrelated to having a bowel movement, I just get the attack for no reason. My stools are ok but I'm normally constipated. Also what worries me is I feel this warmth or burning in my rectum during the movements..I'm clueless as to what's causing that feeling but really worried at the same time. I keep putting off calling my GI cuz of the anxiety.....Does this sound familiar to anyone? Should I be worried? Would I need a colonoscopy?

Thanks guys

I'd definitely ask your physician. Always better to be safe. I don't know what kind of pain you are having but for a few years I kept getting what I can only describe as a rectal cramp. It was so painful it would wake me up in the middle of the night. My doctor said it was a spasm of the muscle that attaches to the tailbone and sweeps up under the groin. Physical therapy taught me some stretches and it helped a lot. I hope you find answers with your issue!

I would most definitely see your GI doctor and you might need to have a colonoscopy. Colonoscopies are not bad as they give you something in an IV to cause you to be mildly sedated so that they can do the scoping without pain and so that the muscles in your abdomen and colon are relaxed enough to be able to get a good visual result during the scoping.

Be aware that this might have nothing to do with autoimmune disease and that is another reason for having the colonoscopy. Not everything is cancer but that is what we all worry about and stresses us out. The hardest part is the prep which takes time but sure isn't as distressing as it was years ago. Just try to stay calm about the whole thing. Hope all goes well and that you can find some relief. meirish

Hi, I have these terrible "butt like cramps" that happen when everything suddenly wants to move down into my colon. I have to do deep breathing and wait until the spasm passes to have a b movement and then I am better. Sometimes I have to go and it just shoots out and that leaves my rectum burning, but it goes away. I had a colonoscopy 6 years ago and all was well, so thy say don't worry, but I do.

I still think you wold do well to see a doctor. When a person is constipated a lot the hard stool can damage the mucous membrane of the colon. The other thing is that sometimes  people can develop neuropathy in the perineal area which is the "bottom" , rectal area and area of the urethra that drains the bladder and the vaginal area. There are nerves that can be affected and that should be ruled out.

Also, yes, there are rectal spasms and they can come for various reasons that need to be diagnosed and treated as needed. Just some more thoughts. meirish
