I have MCTD mixed connective tissue disease which includes Scleroderma, Sjogrens & Raynauds.  I have NO footpads on the bottom of my feet... like NO fat nothing its painful! my toes are curled as well... does anyone have any condition like this other than me?  My family, caregivers, doctor dont understand the pain Im in... they make me walk when unnecessary and tease me make me try to feel lazy for not wanting to stand on my feet... Im so tired of it... I cannot go barefoot... I end up wearing memory sole slippers which are fuzzy and hot... I live in Arizona and we get 110+ temps... these are the only slippers that will stay on my drop feet... I know I need exercise but...

So thoughts anyone?  I guess I needed to vent... I get so frustrated.  Does anyone have this problem with their feet?  curious were you able to get any relief in any way?

NO, but I have arthritis in my feet. I HAVE TO wear sneakers with prescribed orthotics. I would suggest getting some very good sneakers and orthotics!!

I can't walk barefoot either. Just taking a shower is painful for me.

Tell your family to go fly a kite!!! :-\

Don't try to get out of wearing tennis shoes and orthotics cause they are necessary for many people with issues.
this is serious and to walk barefoot or not take care of your feet could set you up for more issues. Going barefoot can cause us to get small cuts or abrasions on our feet and this can develop into infections.

Be are to wear stocking with your orthotics and tennis cause feet sweat so much without them ands one can get yeast infections on our feet from the moisture. Like athletes foot. You might have to change your stockings several times a day. I am diabetic and always wear sandals and socks or a heavy sock alone in the house. I don't want to have injuries that could get infected. Some of these things we just have to learn to adjust to.

I don't know what kind of a caregiver you have but if they are employed by an agency I would call and report them. The other thing to do is to really let all these people know they are being ruse and uncaring.....if yoyo think the caregiver will quit or be fired you will have to take care of this yourself. Thanks. Hope every thing works out. Are you new on this site????Irish

I do not have what you describe but I started having pain in the balls of my feet and numbness and tingling several years ago.  I have to be very careful about what shoes I wear because of the pain.

I have found that Birkenstock?s are my go to for Sandals  and shoes.  Some of them are not bad looking and they can be pricey but they are worth it!

I also wear a comfortable walking tennis shoe in which I use Birkenstock insoles.  I used to wear the cutest heeled shoes but not anymore!  If I go to a wedding I can wear very low heeled pumps for a couple of hours, but they have to be a supportive and well made shoe.

I did see a Podiatrist and got some very expensive orthotics.  I was not happy with them.  The Podiatrist I went to tried to push surgery on me but I got a second opinion and I am glad I did not do it.

It was trial and error but I have to wear a really good and supportive shoe.  I gave my little granddaughter all of my old high heeled shoes and she loved it!🤗

Have you been to a Podiatrist?  It is miserable to be in pain with every step you take.  I hope you find what works for you.  Do not give up because you are worth it.

Also, have you tried water aerobics classes?  Shallow end classes still bother my feet some but the deep end classes are a good workout without bothering your feet.  It is a way to get some exercise and be active.

I love Birkenstock so much that I have multiple pairs.  The more you wear them, the more they conform to your feet.  Some of my oldest pairs are the most comfortable.  They last a long time.

Good luck,

Kathy

Thanks for ur posts... jazzlover a shower is also painful for me... not just the feet but the water itself if you can believe it... I always wear memory sole slippers or sneakers but lately the sneakers are getting more painful... cuts dont heal on me either so Im extra careful when clipping my toenails or calouses... I have found diabetic socks though.

Irish, unfortunately my caregiver is not paid but he does do a lot for me though... if not for him Id be in a home... I was just extremely frustrated being mostly homebound with no family. Im not new to the site but I guess I just never posted?? I was diagnosed with MCTD in 2011... I was pretty sick then in Gaylord Hosp for a yr... I guess I never made a profile... Ill do that.

Kathy, I dont do well with hot tubs or pools... dr says maybe its the Raynauds??  the heat from the tub or pool to the cold air is extremely painful to me which no one understands... like my caregiver or anyone else.
I have not been to a podiatrist lately... my ins is expensive and awful. I Really Thank You for ur support... its what I needed/need.

BTW all the periods in my sentences are there because Ive had a stroke... it helps keep space and my thoughts in order.

I am currently in the process of losing the fat pads in my feet and in my hand.  I still have enough pad left on my feet that I can do some walking.  Walking barefoot is tough, but going barefoot also helps the constant burning/tingling sensation I have in my soles.  Never realized how protective the fat pad is in the hand as well - it actually hurts for me to open jars or door handles with a sharp edge -  just one more thing to learn to do a little bit different than before.
