At night I use a dehumidifier. I have the Crane blue penguin which is both cute but also the stream of moisture is positioned perfectly when I sleep on my right side. But not so great when I turn over in bed. I?ve tried turning the settings higher for more humidity, but I ended up with condensation on my windows which is bad and had to stop.

Years ago for  few months I had sleep apnea and had to use a CPAP machine that had a humidifying chamber so it blew moist air. While I don?t miss the blowing pressurized air since I no longer need it, I do miss the humidity blowing right where I need it, into my nose.

Is there some device that delivers moist air to the nostrils that is not part of sleep apnea equipment?

Hi Skylar,

I did some research on the web, and couldn't find any device that delivers moisture in the same way that the CPAP with a humidifying chamber does.

It seems like a really good idea, and I would buy one, if it existed!

Could you just use your CPAP device for this purpose?

If you could find some type of humidifier that has a place for a hose like you CPAP you could just tie the hose to the head of you bed, etc and get the moisture closer to you. You would have to make sure to clean the humidifier and tubing often. Irish

hi sky, may I ask you how your apneas disappeared? thanks
Bluegardenia, I had a ton of health issues including daily asthma, bronchitis, myositis etc. and I has having some issues with my lungs and muscles. I was tested for sleep apnea in the hospital sleep clinic and found to have sleep apnea. I was given a C Pap with a humidification chamber to humidify the air being blown in. I was also on prednisone for my myositis. While I didn't believe I had sleep apnea before testing - after I got the machine and felt the difference in my sleep I was so glad I was tested. So I encourage everyone to get tested if they suspect they have it.

A few months later I read a book that changed my life - The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health by Dr Thomas Campbell,  Dr T. Colin Campbell.  From there I found Dr. John McDougall's diet - I switched immediately to it. I expected the change to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol but I was shocked when it reduced inflammation in my body and got rid of fibromyalgia and myositis, asthma bronchitis and even allergies I've had since I was a child. And it was more effective than the prednisone. The diet put most of the health issues into remission - it can't bring back the damage my autoimmune diseases have wrought - but removing the inflammation makes everything easier to live with. Anyhow I started to have problems of bloat in the morning....which was caused because I no longer needed the C-Pap machine. I was retested with another overnight sleep study and found I no longer needed it.

While I don't miss having to drag this machine around in a suitcase when I traveled and I hated the noise and the fact it took up all the space on my bedside table... I really miss the humidification.

However my DH also has sleep apnea and he went on the diet with me. He's not overweight - he's a healthy weight, but he has this very lax tissue in his neck and he still needs his machine. My sleep apnea was related to inflammation. Also if you have sleep apnea from being overweight, and you follow the McDougall diet you will lose weight and that may be enough to not need the machine....... but if like DH you have very lax tissue, you may still need it. DH did have to have his pressure lowered so the diet did help him.

Hi Elaine, I did ask a pulmonlogist a few years ago and they said no. I think they are so used to the machine being used to pushing air to open obstructed airways that they can't conceive of it to just deliver humidification.

I have googled over the years myself and never found anything. I keep thinking I can't be the only one dealing with this dryness and maybe the someone here knew of something.

Hi Deb. My CPap also had a humidifier - I really miss the humidified air. I don't miss anything else about that machine.

Forgot to add I have tried Ayr and it does help but not much - it's not getting up inside where the dryness is,

Irish, you have the right idea. I'm not handy to put together random parts to make something like this.

I can't believe no one has invented something like this - I can't be the only Sjoggie that struggles with dryness in my nose.

Have you ever seen the personal humidifier made by Hunter that is quite small and uses a plastic pop bottle to hold the distilled water? I think it is a 16 or 20 oz bottle. It works so great. At one time I was so dry and I placed it on my night stand to run and it actually got the side of my bed a little damp. You can adjust the flow I think. I kept mine cause I didn't want to part with it. Really a cool very workable thing. I would also use it on a end table in the living room. If you place it in certain areas it doesn't get things so damp.

The reason it got my bed damp is because I put it close on purpose. I learned to place a bath towel on the side of my mattress. I would think a Chux incontinence protector would work very well. I don't know if they are found in stores. They might just be found on line now. Good luck. irish

I have my Crane Penguin set up perfectly so it's blowing moist air exactly to my nose and I too have to be careful not to set it on too high a setting or  my pillow and bed will be wet too. The problem is when I roll over to the other side.
