Flare with thyroid pain?

Long time... I haven't been here in a while, because my only issue has been profound fatigue - and I'm not sure if that's from my Sjögren or something else. And my plate has been so full that I've had no energy for anything extra. But...

I just had a nasty head cold that lasted about two weeks. Or actually it still hasn't subsided completely. It came with horrible throat pain, along with those white spots in there. About a week ago my eyes started pushing ridiculous amounts of thick green (ew) stuff. In addition my eyes felt really dry and sandy and just plain horrible. Now the yucky stuff has gone but my eyes are still horribly dry and I need to apply drops several times a day - and still when I go to bed it feels like there's nothing but sandpaper on my eyeballs when I close my eyes.

Today I woke up with a new kind of a throat pain. It's not in the upper neck but close to the collar bones. I'd say it's my thyroid or just below it. It feels like a lump in there and even more so when I swallow. It also hurts down there to swallow. I've also felt rather "off" the entire day. Only low grade fever, though. No more joint/muscle/nerve pain than usually. Mouth doesn't feel dry.

I've had autoimmune thyroiditis since 2006 but never had a feeling like this or a pain like this. Any ideas what is it about? Is it just a part of a weird flare, or could my thyroid be infected just out of the blue like that? Or what?

Might be a good idea to have your PCP check this out next week. I really don't know very much about thyroid pain. I do have hypothyroidism.

I have really bad knee and joint pain that is knocking me flat. Will see my Dr next week. I just pray it's not RA or something.

I guess nobody has any idea about this. The pain and swelling were there for only a day, then subsided, and the throat pain became a "normal" throat pain again. Still feeling lousy and lacking strength. And it was a really weird feeling.

Jazzlover I have osteoarthritis in my knee (and probably in the other one, too) and it's a crazy pain. Luckily mostly just when moving. RA also aches, I guess. Let's hope your pain isn't that!

Hi  :)

When I first got diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis my throat hurt and there was a palpable lump. Blood tests confirmed thyroid trouble and I was put on thyroxine which has needed to be adjusted quite often really to keep things under control. Sometimes an increase, sometimes a decrease.

Because of the lump they did an ultrasound scan which showed a 'multinodular diffuse goitre'. They said it would probably shift around a bit as nodules could grow and shrink but they were sure it wasn't cancerous. (Apparently even if it had been thyroid cancer has a high cure success rate)

I would definitely ask your doc about it.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I don't really have a dx of Hashimotos, but hypothyroidism with a high count of TPO antibodies. So I guess it is some form of Hashimotos. When I was diagnosed, my thyroid was palpated and the doc said it's "fine". Since then, in 12 years, nobody has touched it in anyway. So I guess you're right, I should have it checked.

My headcold has been acting up today again (horrible throat pain again) and it's already three weeks so I probably should have someone check things out. The problem is that I hate going to the health centre (it's often called the "guessing centre"  ::)  ) but can't afford private sector :(

With today's throat pain I honestly don't know anymore which part of my throat is hurting. It feels like the problem is all the way from the collar bones up.

I'm just so tired with everything  :(
