Pumping gas is painful

I think I?m going to invent a new way of pumping gas; the current process seems a bit antiquated anyhow.  The little latch that supposedly helps keep the pump going never works therefore causes me pain while squeezing for so long.  Is it just me or do others have this issue also?

I sure couldn't do it right now. My left hand is so inflamed and sore from trying to quilt a small quilt right now.
