A Stress Link to Lupus

"Exposure to trauma, even without having symptoms of PTSD, more than doubled the risk of developing the disease."  from the NYT article today.

Trauma is a trigger for immune/autoimmune diseases in my opinion.  It overloads our Immune System and exposes the weak spots.

I believe stress is a factor for me.

And I've heard the connection before re Lupus.
Indeed, I had a tumultuous childhood.

Of course I wonder if it all started from there. That flight or fight response gone haywire.

After I married, I discovered I needed surgery due to a kidney problem that probably should of been identified in my youth. Many years of difficulties (many infections and so forth) and was shocked to discover that perhaps I didn't get good medical care early on. So, I had a difficult surgery, was upset about the entire ordeal and also had a difficult job. Boom   Bad combo for me. Shortly afterward I developed some big time horrible signs that were dx'd as Lupus.

Flash forward decades later. Was doing better with Lupus. Had a very difficult year. A relative passed away, developed very painful facial neuralgia after an insane dental tx, was exposed to kids for the first time and got several sinus infections and had another yucky job.  Boom   Developed dry mouth and dry eyes, fatigue and some body aches. Went to Lupus doc and discovered I now had Sj Syndrome.

Stress and autoimmune stuff is a horrible combination.
