anyone diagnosed with dacryocystitis?

My eyes are a mess. Literally. Dry as a bone and mucous glued to outer lower lids and cheek (really - I can't wash it off no matter what I try!), with redness and swelling of lower lids. Got in to see GP who diagnosed dacryocystitis, and with my allergies to numerous oral antibiotics, decided to try topical antibiotics and warm packs.

I suspect I am headed to ophthalmologist or otolaryngologist soon. Have not been diagnosed with Sjogren's yet, but have had dry eyes/dry mouth for several years.

Can't find much online about a correlation between the two. Anyone here ever dealt with this?

Your infection is caused by Staphylococcus Aureus or Strep. Pneumoniae, serious situation.I researched and saw that the best treatment is oral antibiotics, surely you can''t be allergic to all the existing ones. There are also antibiotic eye drops, but I guess oral ones are more effective. I have an undiagned infection, and have been using antibiotic eye drops for more than a year and I'm managing. Thank you for response, Nina I am sad for your lingering infection - that must be frustrating. 

The doc and I discussed the allergy issue at great length and we researched it together. I am allergic to some or all of the components of the oral antibiotics commonly used to treat this condition, and since I work in health care, MRSA is a very real concern. Taking an antibiotic I can tolerate that has no efficacy against the infection is contraindicated, and gives bacteria one more chance to become resistant. If the moxifloxacin drops do not help, IV antibiotics or surgery may be necessary, I understand.

I thought, perhaps in error, that my dry eyes may have contributed to this problem.

Was finally able to get in to see my fave optometrist (ophthalmology wouldn't see me with out an eye exam first....HUH???), and I think he figured this out (appendages crossed). He gave me a script for Xiidra. Five days in, my eyelid swelling is significantly decreased, I can manage the mucous overload better (it actually has tears to mix with, instead of just eye drops!  ), and my eyes actually feel more moist. Having some odd side-effects, but the improvement in appearance is already significant, and I can use baby-wash on my face again (less painful lids - yes, even baby wash stung).

He intimated that he'd just returned from a recent conference, and other docs were saying that Xiidra seems to work better than Restasis for SJ dry-eyes in a significant number of individuals.

WOOHOO!     Now, to check this forum for more Xiidra users....
