Diclofenac SOD DR 75 MG Tab

My Rhumatologist on last visit had prescribed this drug for me for arthritis/inflammation, and I wondered if any one here takes this. The side effects sound quite scary, but what do you think?

Diclofenac is a relatively well established NSAID, I took the trade name, Voltaren, 20 some years ago on a daily basis over at least 5 years, for inflammatory arthritis, with no problem. The topical voltaren gel is available, at least here in eastern Canada, without a prescription.

The list of possible side effects is daunting, for sure, but it's the same list for every NSAID for the last several years, since research linked that particular class of drugs to increased cardiac risk, resulting in the removal of several NSAIDs and COX2 inhibitors from the market, an limiting the use of all others.

Thank you Linda. Yes it does make a person take a second look when you read all the issues that could happen, but then later I looked at the ones for ibuprofen and it was the same.

Yes, it is Voltaren and has been on the market for many years. The one thing to do is to check with your doctor about drug interaction. Aspirin is not to be taken with any of the NSAIDS as it can cause bleeding. I have seen people on an NSAIDS who have been taking aspirin also end up with bleeding in clouding vaginal bleeding. I think that a baby aspirin each day is not a problem, but check with your doctor. Also, I would hope that your pharmacist has run this med on a computer program along with the other meds you are on to check for drug interactions.,

Doctors often don't have the time to keep up with all the details so we have to be extra vigilant as patients. Actually, being a patient can be pretty time consuming also. Right. Good luck. IRISH
