Hi All!
I have been on my Methotrexate for about 5 weeks now. I take the Folic Acid too. I feel worse if anything, and having my skin easily bleed in my intimate areas just from wiping. Losing my hair, and no energy, and stay sick most of the time. I am thinking of going off of it. I was prescribed it after being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Have you talked to your doctor???He may want to blood work and see yoyo . Sometimes cutting back on the dose can help. I would at least call him cause the blood work should probably be followed up on as the white and red cells can be affected. Good luck. Irish

susanep

I called his office, and they called back to say the doctor said to go off it for now.

SjoGirl

Hello Suenep, I could not tolerate mexotrethate or plaquenil. Mexotrethate made me so ill that when I saw my former hematologist when I was on it she called my then rheumatologist from her office and said I needed to be taken off of it immediately.

I experienced similar issues with bleeding, but on my forearms. I once pulled up my shirtsleeves to find that my arms had been bleeding and crusted over and I didn't even realize that there were wounds there (my father-in-law was on life support and we were sleeping in the hospital waiting room, thus the reason checking myself over was not top of mind).

I am now on Immuran and wish I could say that it is helping with pain, but it's not (but I'm only on 50 mg a day). It may also be that the pain is not from SjS, but rather from neuropathy or OA.

So sorry to hear when one of us can't tolerate a drug, it's a disappointment I know.

I was surprised to feel the pain I have felt since going off of Methotrexate. When I first get up in the morning or after sitting awhile, I have to do my best to take a step, because my legs don't want to move. It hurts in the top joints of my leg that meets my torso. I didn't have that before. Odd!

Maybe it is a new pain that you got while on the Metho.  Maybe the Metho took care of the pain and you didn't know you had it until you quit the med. As you can  one thing after another and many times more than one new thing at a time. Hope this new pain leaves and you feel better.  Maybe doc will start you on another med. You have not been on Cellcept yet have you. Many people have good luck with that one also. Irish

susanep

Irish no I have not been on cellcept. On my next appointment he will probably discuss it all with me. It's always something.

susanep.. hoping the Dr. will find a good fit for you to help manage the pain.
I am fortunate to tolerate methotrexate, but, it does does not address everything. However, it did allow me to lower doses of the other meds.
It is disheartening to be in in pain and have difficultly simply taking a step.
Wishing you the best.

Thank you quietdynamics.

I have had a lot of joint swelling and pain, but more aware of life than on the methotrexate. That sounds strange, but it's true.

I know it really did help that before, but couldn't tolerate the other things with bleeding through my skin, etc.

susanep :)
