Lyrica and gabapentin

In the past, I've tried gabapentin and been unable to tolerate at it, even at very low doses. Lots of grogginess and fogginess.  Also tried gralise, which is an extended release form of gabapentin.

I just saw a new rheumy, and she feels Lyrica might be worth a try.   If, as my reading suggests, Lyrica works in a similar way, with a different uptake mechanism, will I experience the same side effects?

Anyone been unable to use gabapentin, but did well with Lyrica?

Dear warmwaters,

Sometimes I think the grogginess is the best part of Gabapentin.  I'm so disabled and chair bound that it helps to be groggy....another nap anyone?

I do hope Lyrica works for you.   Having something to stop nerve pain is a blessing.

Elaine - I hear what you're saying, but I find the grogginess miserable. I'm already exhausted, so adding groggy to exhausted is definitely the wrong direction.

I've not tried Lyrica but my mother-in-law did. It worked for her neuropathy but it made her really angry and agitated. I'm much more sensitive to meds so I won't try it. Tetrigol worked amazingly well for me but made me depressed. Maybe ask your doctor if it's a med to consider.

Thanks for the info about your mom.  The doctor is saying I should try it, and I'm scared of it since I've had bad reactions to the previous 2 medicines that are similar.
