This topic has been discussed before (even by me!),
but I was wondering if anybody had any updates or success stories on using
CBD oil for actual inflammation (even if not specifically for SJS).
I know it helps with pain but I'm more interested in its long-term medical benefits of decreasing
inflammation in the body.
Thanks!

It's a therapeutic component of the cannabis plant.

The first one that I tried was 2.5 of active ingredients. it was sent free and I was charged $80. I did not like that. I took it once a day and it did help.

I have found a new one that is 10 units of active ingredients. I have started to take it at night. I plan on switching to one in the am and one at night. Each bottle is 30 pills. The 2 bottles cost me a total of $80. The pills are a little bigger.

I was watching a news report and a 5 year old girl with seizures was taking 2.5 twice per day. So with my size 10 twice per day sounds good.

It has helped with pain, sleep, blood pressure, and my vision.

Yes.  I have a jar of CBD jelly - sort of the consistency of vaseline, but all natural.  My neighbor uses it for pain in her shoulder after rotator cuff injury and swears by it.  My husband started using it for arthritis in his knees and said it helps a lot with the pain.

I have tried it on my face for rosacea-type inflammation and wasn't impressed.  So I think it's mostly for pain.  But yes, it seems to work quite well.

There is a local guy who formulates it and sells it quite reasonably through mail order. If you're interest PM me.  But lots of places have formulations of their own.

Joe- Great to hear it helped you! How did it help your vision exactly?

Sooki- I'd love to order but it's considered illegal in my country. I would have to obtain a license for it and the process is a lengthy one.

It helped with my glaucoma. (pain reduction)

I may need the other component to help with depression, and anxiety.

CBD=Cannabidol

Joe- Thanks for the info, I really believe that in the long-term CBD is the safer option
compared to all the toxic AI meds.

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear that it's illegal.  In the US, cannabis is still illegal except for a few states (including mine). Medical marijuana is legal in most (I think).  But CBD oil, as far as I've been told, is legal in all.  I hope your country loosens its regulations on CBD oil soon.

Yes Sooki, it's ridiculous it's illegal here.
I can't even order it over the internet because the credit card companies here block payment to such sites
and in any case would not allow it to enter the country.
If I lived where it was legal I would definitely be taking it.

I've written a few blog posts about my use of CBD. The little research that is available seems to show that very large (and generally cost-prohibitive) doses are necessary for the kind of inflammation relief that those of us with autoimmune diseases are looking for. However, smaller doses can be helpful with pain, anxiety, and sleep problems. I have been taking 1-2 doses of around 30mg per day sublingually, and find that it generally helps me relax and better sleep through the night.

Hi WhatYouSjo!
Yes, I have followed your blog posts with great interest and was wondering if you had experienced any additional relief since your last post on the topic. I'm disappointed it didn't relieve your inflammation issues.
Exactly what dosage has been found to help with AI inflammation?
If I manage to get a license they're supposed to supply me with the dosage I need for my condition at low cost.
BTW- your blog is the reason I fought for and recently began Orencia. :)

Hi Sharon. Glad I was able to help. If you haven't read my latest post, I cited a mouse study of the effects of CBD on inflammation. Keeping in mind that animal studies may not be accurate reflections of humans, the researchers found the best response to inflammation at 25 mg/kg of CBD. For a human at 60 kg (~132 lbs), that ratio would require a dose of 1500 mg. At the cheapest price I have seen of 5 cents/mg of CBD, that treatment schedule would cost $75 per dose. Another study I saw indicated that the target doses for autoimmune diseases were 150 mg-600 mg per day, which is still $7.50 - $30/day at the going rate. As CBD usage expands and more countries legalize it, I would expect to see those prices drop (and hopefully be covered by health care plans), but for the time being it is cost-prohibitive for most people at those doses.

At my lower doses of 30mg, I do notice some minor improvements aches and pains, but not nearly as much as I would wish.

That's important info WhatYouSjo.
I'm wondering about patient tolerance at those high doses required as well.
Have you experienced any adverse effects at the dose you're on?
I take it your sicca symptoms were not improved at all by CBD?
