I have had the worst dry hair of my life the last 8 months. It is from the autoimmune thyroid I know plus the solu medrol infusions really kicked it up a notch. I have tried everything I could think of and tried to make good choices on purchases of conditioner cause it is spendy.

Anyway, I found this product that is really helping my hair. It is at Walgreens in a purple tube in the shampoo/conditioner aisle. Made by Giovanni and has "2 chic" written on one end of the tube. It is Blackberry coconut fragrance and it isn't too strong for me. I have used it about 4 times now and it is slowly taming my hair and the frizzies are gone. My hair feels softer also. Before within 24 hours my hair was frizzed and sticking out all over and very dull looking and felt like wire almost. It cost 5.95 so that wasn't so bad. No 20$ stuff for me cause it is taking a chance every time you try a new product.Good luck with it if you try it. Irish

Oh Irish, thank you so much!!

My hair & I are desperate for a product that works.

Take care.

Not cheap, but the Kinky Curly products really lock in the moisture if you have wavy/curly hair. They're around $18 at Target and you have to use the leave-in conditioner or the gel will not work properly. However, just a tiny amount goes a long way so they last forever. Now if only I could find something to keep my hair from falling out...

Thanks, Irish.   I've ordered some from amazon.  I ordered the blackberry one you recommended, but I noticed that the avocado one said I could "choose the mood and play all day".....

Thank you Irish.. yes, dry hair and that after so much hair loss from this disease.. ugh! No more french braids.. sigh.

Hated buying products that do not work!! Adds up so started using some conditioner 'rejects' for body, wet hands and use a dab as detangler for granddaughter in the morning or for fly away hair from winter heat.

I have straight hair and most products just weigh hair down.. I do like Panteen Hydrating products in Gold containers.. love the clean coconut scent too, and just use a bit of it goes long way for me.

Few years ago (that is how long I have had this one jar of product) in one of the Dollar Stores I picked up out of curiosity Softee Indian Hemp Hair & Scalp Treatment. It is not for straight hair, but mine was soooo dry. I just put it on the very tips and tiny amount and  my  two white 'Cruella deVille' stripes (and since mostly Petrolatum, Lanolin, Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil, Wheat Germ Oil based on dry skin too..lol)  I use hairblower on cool to dry hair now too.

Every so often I wash hair with baking soda, rinse out and then a rinse with diluted white vinegar... to get out product build up, esp. hair spray.
I also changed out bathroom lights to LED daylight type... surprise...my hair is not really that dull and I look better in daylight/ natural light for putting on blush, picking lip color.  I found the yellowish light bulbs do not translate well to natural light .. and I would go out and look completely washed out.

Going to tell my daughter about the Giovanni 2Chic products.. she is the tester..lol.  And will tell New daughter-in law with beautiful curly red hair..lol

Sooki.."choose the mood and play all day".....    :) :) :)

thanks irish, that sounds like it would smell divine. I am funny about the way things smell.  Gonna have to try that.
Here is what I've started doing for my VERY dry,  frizzy, wavy hair. Before I shampoo, I put in some conditioner (your favorite kind, or some moroccan oil) in my hair. You can do it right before you shampoo.
then I take my shampoo for dry hair (any kind) and dilute 1:5 shampoo to water. I lather twice. It's amazing how much lather is still left when you dilute the shampoo and this way, it doesn't dry your hair out. It's watery but it lathers very well.
then I condition in the shower, wash that out
last, I put some oil in it as it is drying.

This is the only thing in the past few years that has  tamed my hair. It feels better than it has in  over 10 years.  It sounds like a lot but it works. I like it b/c it works with basically any kind of shampoo and conditioner and oil for dry hair.

Another thing that I found works well is Neutragena soap. It is a castile or that goldish color and a soft soap that is oily. Out of desperation early on with my dry hair I would shampoo and rinse and then used the bar soap Neutragena to lather up my hair. It makes such a nice, soft suds that makes the hair soft. I would then use a conditioner. I am wondering what would happen if I did this routine and then used my new conditioner.

My hair is better than it was but I went ahead and had a perm and am glad I did cause at least a have more body. Still have to work to keep the frizz away. Plan to let my hair grow even longer and just put it up cause the curls are good. Irish

Dear Irish and all,

I have baby fine hair, and stick-straight.  I always had fine hair, but lots of it (per square inch or however it's measured).   For years I hated it, and permed it, etc.

But now I get a good hair cut and color my hair (I only found out I was a blonde at 65!).  My hair is in good condition which comes from my diet, basically.  So it shines.

Reading these posts I realize that in spite of some hair loss (mostly due to the Depakote which causes hair loss and which I no longer take), I am doing OK.

I do have to wash my hair daily or the natural oil of my skin will make my hair limp and icky.   That is hard for me, because it is just hard for me to do anything, and hair washing and drying adds to my tasks.

I cannot use any conditioner at all, because that will make my hair oily, or whatever.  I do sometimes use a very light hair spray when I use my curling iron, and to give my hair some body.

At 75, I am 'tired of' hair, make up, and everything.  But I still make an effort if company is coming or I am going out (except to the fitness center, then it all hangs out!).    I sometimes wonder what it will be like when I'm 85?  But of course, that is silly to think about or worry about.  Today is all I have.

I wish all of you the best.  Our hair is often called 'our cross to bear' (of course humorously) in life.

Irish, thank you for this tip. I will look this up too. I have thick hair which has natural wave. I would like to get a perm, but the last time I did several years ago it looked like a bunch of curly cues. I loved the body though.

Today I saw my ENT and he told me that the dry wild hair and loss of hair can be caused by low iron. Now this makes me wonder just how many people on this site  have low ferritin level and anemia. Something for people to check into. Irish

Irish is your hair thick?
