Methotrexate

Has anyone been on Methotrexate and had bladder issues?  I'm taking such a small dose, 0.5 ml.  I was on 0.4 and the dr. recently moved it to 0.5 and now I have to go to the bathroom a lot and barely make it.  When I mentioned it to him, he 'guaranteed' it was not from the MX, but I'm not so sure. 

I looked up the side effects and it is listed as a possible side effect, but he said in 30 years of practice, he never heard of that before. I don't have a UTI and there's no burning issue, it's just the urgency thing.

If there is one thing a doctor should learn is that when a patient tells him something new is happening he should listen. Also, if that something is listed under rare side effects then probably that is what you have. Happens seldom that is why it is called rare.

Also, he would be wise to chalk this up as another learning experience as he just had his first patient with a rare side effect from the Methotrexate. I am not meaning to be sarcastic, but my immunologist tells me at times "that is weird, but it is your body and your know what is going on". Basically, that is my opinion and maybe you can gently remind the doctor of this side effect and ask about lowering your dosage and/or trying a different medication. Hope you get this taken case of. Different doctors have different attitudes towards "out of the usual".  I once had a set of symptoms that were a very rare side effect, and my doctor go sort of excited. He commented that this was something he'd read about in text books, but had never actually seen.  Sort of like spotting a rare bird.

He did, of course, then help me solve the problems.

Thanks Warmwaters for taking the time to post.  Well my doc did go back 1 ml on my dose to my original dose.  I think he is of the mindset that this will be like the hydroxychloroquine he put me on in the beginning.  I had so much stomach pain from it I did not think I could take it, but he kept me on track giving me suggestions, etc., and eventually I made it through. I think that med has done me a lot of good and I'm glad I saw it through.

This problem, however is different and I really don't want to 'push' forward like that.  I will see what happens on the dosage I'm back on and if my bladder calms down it will be okay.
