How does prednisone effect TSH or thyroid hormones

As I try to figure out why my neuropathy has recurred I am wondering if anyone knows how prednisone effects TSH and the thyroid. I was told in August of 2015 (after physical) that my TSH was too high (8.67). My doctor said it didn't matter because my thyroid hormones were "okay," no medications needed. I asked for a referral to an endo and it took 6 months to get in and by that time my autoimmune disorder was active and I was on prednisone again. The endo said the prednisone would make my TSH read normal even if it wasn't  so we had to wait until I was off prednisone. As my dose was lowered from 50 mg and down to 7 (as my autoimmune neuropathy improved) and suddenly the neuropathy returned. Could the lowered prednisone dose allow the TSH to go back up (less thyroid hormone) and cause the neuropathy to flare? Maybe I am reaching here, but trying to help myself. I would add that just before the neuropathy returned the sensitive hearing and ear ringing returned (that came last time prior to a flare). Any info appreciated as I try to save my ability to work.

I would add (to my question above) that a few weeks before the neuropathy returned so did the skin itching, the puffy eyes, constipation and hearing sensitivity. Maybe that's related?

Ive been on prednisone/medrol for years..there has always been a question about my thyroid, but my tests always come back normal, except my free T3 is low. I wondered if my steriod use effects this as well. My one doctor says Yes, another says No??

I think if you do a google search, it has some articles about this.

Im sure it does alter the levels though.

Endo says prednisone does effect TSH but as I am at 8 mg he believes it is time to check it again. The last time they tested it I was on 60 mg and TSH was almost 6 and he suspected higher without prednisone.

Hi, what are your normal high levels for TSH ?  Here in central america it's 4. IF it is  a)3.5 or over your pituitary gland isn't working right. b)If your TSH levels are 2.5 and you have hypothiroid symptms: cold ,fatigue etc.,( are given levothyroxine) these facts according to USA research I did on internet, and we  who have these results    a) and b) are given levothyroxine, and feel better. I don't understand your endo.

Hi

When my TSH was 6, I felt every bit as ill as I did when it was 42. I don't feel right unless my TSH is 2 or preferably lower. Feel best when its about 0.3.

I think you should explore the possibility f medication because if you can get it lower than 6 you may feel considerably better.
