NGF eye drops

Has anybody heard anything about NGF eye drops? They are currently in a Phase II trial. Any and all responses appreciated.

Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) eye drops are not a treatment for dry eye or Sjogren's except in the most domino type effect. They are meant to stimulate the regrowth of nerve cells in the brain, and are administered via eye drops because any other route of administration (oral or injectable) causes either destruction of the peptide enzyme, or cannot cross the blood brain barrier. Administration in eye drops allows the enzyme to travel the optic nerve into the brain and thus direct access to the neural cells of the brain.

This whole process is designed to regenerate the active neural cell development and growth that we experience in youth, which slows with age (like just about everything else), and which may eventually, cause renewal in the nerve pathways which stimulate exocrine activity, the domino effect I mentioned.

As an eye drop, they do seem to have a more direct effect on glaucoma, possibly because the immediate access to the optic nerve strengthens or regenerates it avoiding or lessening the damaging effects of increased ocular pressure.

Thank you. But there is now a Penn clinical trial for which it is being tested for dry eye.
