On a practical note you mentioned your husband isn't great at cooking and housework. Might it be possible to hire someone to come in for a few hours a day several times a week to help?  Make some meals ahead, so they just have to be heated, make up some sandwiches for salads for lunch, etc.  If I remember  rightly, you live near a college area, so in addition to the usual home services, you might be able to recruit a student.

I agree with warmwaters.  Tomorrow my accountant is coming and we are going to fill out the paperwork for Aging OUtreach Services.  They have a website, google them.  They were a godsend to my accountant last year when her mother had a heart attack.

I do not know how I am going to break this to mom that they are coming tomorrow, she has already said that she does not want anyone here.

But after last Saturday, there is no choice.  I was in my bedroom, all of the sudden the fire alarm goes off, I go into the kitchen to find a pot of soup, blackened and the apartment filled with smoke everywhere.  Mom left the pot, went to the bathroom to clean out her bag and had no idea she had left a pot there, until I reminded her.  I took all day to air out the apt.

She can no longer be left alone.  She will not leave the stove alone.  There are days I have doctors appointments and have to go on local shopping trips for groceries.  She is becoming more confused and forgetful.

Carolina, I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow and you get the pain relief you are seeking.  Mom and I love where we live..  We order in food every night, there is a little market square which sells essentials, two dining rooms, one casual, one formal, a fitness center, pool, bank, library, art studio, wood working shop and chapel etc.

I am sorry for all that you are going through. You have a lot of friends here who understand. Keep venting, I don't think it's good to keep things all bottled up. Many thoughts and prayers that the procedure on the 25th gives you much needed relief. Pain is awful. It runs us down and makes us depressed.   Take care and hang in there!!!
