Another weird thing: Sore jawbone!

I've had a really rough ( =busy) couple of days again. Last night I took ibuprophein and paracetamol for a headache (although I'm not supposed to, but I don't have anything else that helps). I did take them after an esomeprazol, though.

I don't know that I'd hurt my jaw in anyway, also the pain is bilateral, so hurting it probably wouldn't cause this kind of pain. Anyway, both sides of my jawbone are sore to touch. They don't ache, my cheeks aren't swollen. Today I've had slightly sore throat, but I have had some coughing because of problems with fragrances this week, so I blame that for the sore throat. As far as I can tell my submandibular and parotid glands are ok.

So this is totally weird. I'm not worried about it really, just find it funny how odd things one gets to face (no pun intended  ;D ) with this peculiar illness.

I've been having some issues that seem like pre-TN or something that originates from the nerves, but I don't think this jaw pain is anything like that but a totally separate issue.

Any wild guesses? Sandman training for heavy weight championships while I'm sleeing?  ;D Didn't sleep much last night, though... :P

Sometimes I get pain that is right in front of the paratoid glands and feels like jaw pain. I have had this several times over the years and I have come to the conclusion that it is the parotid gland ducts that drain into the cheek on both sides. I think it is a sort of slightly spasming pain that feels like pain in the jaw bone in front of the ears about 2 inches or so. It helps to put heat on this area and then massage gently. Just a thought. Irish

You say you have soreness at the jaw but it doesn't ache? So I assume that means you only feel pain when you press on it?
It could be from your parotid glands.

I had a SORE jaw for about three weeks (meaning it hurt all the time no matter my action) that had followed a severe case of dry mouth in December.

Sometimes it's so difficult to explain stuff here so that it would be understandable to others. And our many very weird issues don't make it any easier :D

My pain was not around my jaw joint. It was when I pressed the sides of my jaw from underneath - so the bone where the big molars stand on. Both sides, but underneath, not inside the mouth. It hurt to lean my jaw against my hand.

Anyway, the pain is pretty much gone now. Maybe it was allodynia or fibromyalgia or something, I don't know. Hoping it won't come back. Many of its friends already did :P

OK. Got it! There are salivary glands on both side of your face sort of under and to the side of the jawbone. They are called the submaxillary and they can get swollen and inflamed. They don't have to have much swelling in them to be sore. Heat and gentle massage usually help.
Sometimes the swelling and pain in these big salivary glands can be bad and quite often this is a sign of infection in the gland. There are 2 glands--one on each side of face in front of a slightly below the ear. Then the s--one each side face and below and to the side of the jawbone(Parotid glands) and last of all, the 2 sublingual glands that are below the tongue and sort of in the center of the floor of the mouth. The glands under the tongue secrete quite a bit of saliva. Hope this helps your out some. Irish

Thank you again, Irish.

I felt the pain was more like the bone being sore, but of course any doctor would tell me right away that bones don't hurt  ;D
I think they do, though  8)

But yeah, it may have been some glands, too. Anyway, it's mostly gone (for) now. At least one spot not being so sore at the moment  ;D

I had the same thing happen to me for five days.  Had to take Motrin once a day to stop the pain.  My doctor thought it had to do with sinuses or clenching my teeth at night.  I thought it was the sandwiches, Eija.  LOL

You really need to quit the sandwhiches, Judie.
(Not telling you that my number one source of nutrition is sandwhiches...  8) )
