Hi all, As a family a number of us have decided to pursue some of the genetic testing that is out there. I was thrilled when answering the research questions to see several that asked whether I had ever been diagnosed with Sjogrens.

I haven't received my results yet, but am very interested to see what they reveal!
Raynauds, sero-negative RA, Primary SjS, osteopenia, degenerative disc disease, disc protrusions, stenosis, Carpal tunnel,  poly neuropathy, myoclonus, hiatal hernia, esophagitis, viral infection, Leukopenia. Restasis, Vitamin D, B12, Evoxac, Lanzoprezole, calcium acetaminophen.

I did it three years ago before the FDA blocked it. It is certainly a very interesting discovery and helps in confirming what you already know. It also come with a list of high and low risk of diseases that you could be potentially susceptible to. My high risk were disconcerting: psoriatic arthritis, ra, limited cutaneous sclerosis, stomach and esophageal cancer. My sjogrens was actually quite far down the list!
After you get your results you can use another service like livewello which links to 23 and me to give you a better report.
Good luck!

You can now get your analysis thru 23andme... but they now charge more because of it. I got in just under the wire of the price increase.

I actually ordered this and just received my box to collect my sample. As soon as I get over this bronchitis, I am going to collect my specimen and send it off. I was surprised and excited to see that test for carrier traits as one of the diseases it checks for.

Do they know the sequence for Sjogrens?   I didn't know that. Anyone got pointers on the details?

Thanks

I wanted to get this done. Can you remain anonymous or does your DNA fingerprint get posted for others who can see it?

No, nobody else can see it, the only thing you see is risk factor of diseases and conditions and you can look at snp's which is greek to me. I have opted for my info to be used for research, but you can opt in or out for that.

Ditto what Tharrell said. You can also opt in or out of letting 23 and Me store your DNA.

I don't know whether the sequence for Sjogrens is known. Clearly though 23 and Me has some sort of focus on it otherwise it seems they would not ask several questions about whether you've been diagnosed with it.

Probably some of the health history questions they ask are for their internal data base so they can go back and make correlations with various conditions maybe?

Interesting - thanks for the information. I did 23 and me about 1-1/2 years ago and there was not a question about Sjogrens. Wonder if I should contact them to help research.

I too remember there was no specific question on sjogren's yet it showed up on my list of possible health condition. Quiet far down in fact, but there.

Lucy if you are still registered and are willing you might be in touch with 23 and Me and mention this conversation. Who knows you may help them with research that will help us.
