Hello all,
Looking for help on sleep issues.  I started taking Evoxac, but it seems to only last for 3 hours or so.  When I go to sleep, I wake up in middle of night very dry and it's not time for another pill.  Any good strategy on what to do to fall back asleep.  Also, does exovac work better the longer you take it.  Can you take it more than 3x daily.  Is it better to alternate it with salagen.  Any suggestions ?   Love to all, Mike

I don't know about mixing the two...but it is more effective the longer you take it.  Also...I had to work up to my current dosage.  My stomach wouldn't tolerate the amount which was originally Rxed.  I take pilo  @ 7.5mg twice daily and 5 mg at night.  I still wake up needing water...and I also take a bit of biotene gel at the same time.  I will say this, before dx, I would wake up coughing.  It wasn't until I was medicated I realized I was waking up choking--gasping for air since I couldn't swallow.  Now I just wake up thirsty.  And yes...I have much trouble going back to sleep.  Has become average pattern for me and I dread it.  At times when I wake up with dry mouth my tongue is literally stuck to the roof of my mouth.

Ask your doctor what he advises for maximum daily dosage...and see if you need to take more at night.

Good luck, ccc

You may also want to consider placing a humidifier near your bed, it really has helped me with the dryness issue while sleeping. Mixing two different medications that do the same thing is probably not a good idea, but you could take the last dose just before you go to bed so it will last through out the night. It defenitly works better the longer you use it.
Good luck!

Thx for advice !!!

Biotene makes an oral gel that is in a tube and is quite thick. You can just squeeze the gel into your mouth and swish it around and swallow it. Don't try to use too much of the gel. This coats the mouth and throat and help keep it moist longer.

I have my method that has worked for years. I suck on sugar free cough drops and always place one in my cheek when I go to bed. It dissolves slowly during the night and helps keep me just moist enough to prevent that horrible dryness that wakes us up. Irish

I think Evoxac works better than Pilo.  I take generic.  I felt it worked even better after I had been on it for more than three weeks.

Many people here have told me about Xylomelts.  I buy them on Amazon.  I take my last Evoxac right before bed and use two Xylomelts nightly between my upper gums and cheek - one on each side.  It dissolves slowly through the night and has helped me immeasurably.

I love the people here because they have given me such great advice and have improved my life.  I always use a humidifier as well.

Wishing you well.

Hi Mike,

I find several natural substances can also be used as a sleep aids.

For one, I find low dose Pregnenolone excellent for this purpose. I take 10 mg before bedtime.
Coupled with Dhea (which Sjoggies are usually low on) it's even more effective.
This combo also helps alleviate eye & mouth dryness a little.

Good luck!

It is possible that during the night/sleep you are breathing though your mouth. (open mouth breathing).  I have a crock pot near the head of bed I leave going all day/night.  Easy to clean and fill (plus it was just collecting dust in a cabinet.. soo)

Keeping the body hydrated throughout the day ( sipping 2 litter of water) helps. You can add a few drop of lemon juice to stimulate saliva.

A poster a while back had talked about coconut pulling.. and I do find the coconut soothes mouth.
Although I am not consistent about it.
At night after we brush teeth and tongue we remove most of protective mucosa .. drink water and flush more away.. and natural saliva production goes down to around 0% @ night.  So some type of added humidity and coating will be a bonus.
