Hello, I'm not officially dx yet but have many symptoms of sjogrens. The latest being that my menstrual cycle has just stopped! I'm 34!! For the past year I've noticed my periods getting lighter and lighter and less productive. Even mid cycle discharge was scant, the whole area down there is very dry now. It even itches like mad but there's no infection that can be blamed (no yeast, bacteria, etc.). I assume its the awful dryness. But last month I just didn't get a flow at all! This has NEVER happened to me in my life. I'm very regular, you could set a clock by my petiods. Then this month I'm two days late again. I'm not pregnant.

Has anyone experienced a cessation of their menstrual cycle due to sjogrens? I highly suspect I have thyroid disease but of course all the tests are negative. Haven't had a lip biopsy but my rheumy suspects autoimmune. The only lab test that is off for me is my C4 is low. But I have dry mouth, eyes, nose, throat, dry tight hands and feet, weight gain, brittle dry hair, loss of eyebrows and eyelashes, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia. You name it, I have it. Now i dont even menstruate anymore! im too young for all this. I really don't know what to do. Help?

Others will definitely be of more help, but I can say that my gyn told me that women with rheumatological issues do tend to have more trouble with the hormonal stuff.

Ive not heard of this being attributed to SS, it is common that SS makes a woman more uncomfortable during the "change"
but please note that it is not uncommon for a 34 year old to be starting the menopause.
Best seeing a gynaecologist to rule this out, Dolly

I was having serious itching problems down there and it was diagnosed as lichen sclerosus.  Yup, another autoimmune disease. They treat it with a potent topical steroid ointment and it works miracles - itching stops within 5minutes. Maintenance is 2x/week.  Sounds like it's time for a OB-GYNvisit!

I also went into menopause at that age. You could ask to be tested for anti-ovarian antibodies.

I don't know if it is Sjogren's, but I have had it all my life.

IF you are under stress, it can mess it up too.
I remember when I had a parent in the hospital, my stomach, digestion and periods when all awry.
I fact one month after my last parent, mother, passed awayin the hospital, my periods ended altogether. I was 46 then though.

Hi  :)

Thyroid issues can mess with menstruation.

I think this is one to ask your doctor about though.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I went through an early menopause when I was 44. My GYN said it is not uncommon for those with autoimmune diseases to go through an early menopause.

P.S. Are you sure you're not pregnant?

Your symptoms really sound like Sjogrens and Hashimotos thyroiditis.  Did they check your thyroid antibodies?  My antibodies showed up before my TSH failed.

Hope you get answers soon.
