Could use some prayers for my little dog Andy

My precious little Andy.  He is a Chihuahua Pug cross, with soulful eyes and a loving nature.  Four years ago I spotted him running down the street, no collar, no ID, no one chasing behind him.   No one claimed him, so we adopted him.  He instantly fit in, like it was meant to be.

That month I went on long term disability still with no diagnosis.   Andy took care of me.  Lots of kisses, looks of love, and he never left my side.  He truly was an Angel.

This February he got very ill.  We almost lost him.  He ended up being diagnosed with pancreatitis and a urinary tract infection.   He recovered, but we changed his diet to try to avoid this from happening again.  Or so we had hoped.

Little Andy is sick again.  Not as sick this time because we took him in to his vet at the first sign of a change.  His eyes are no longer soulful, just sad.  He hides under the bed, unable to lie with me so that I can comfort him.  But right now his appetite is good.  And he doesn't appear to be in pain.  And we patiently wait for the test results hoping for good news.

Please, if you are so inclined, say a prayer for my little guy.  He is only six years old and I hope to share many more years with him.  Thank you.

Thank you my friends for all your prayers for our Andy.

I believe they are working because tonight he has been giving me kisses and fought his brother off for a treat.   :D

Amanda - Andy is 6 in people years.  Around 40 years old in small doggie years.

Tomorrow we return to the vet for more tests.  I will let you know how it goes.

Sharon, thanks for asking.   He seems almost like his old, energetic self for the last 36 hours or so.  Tests so far are negative but we are still waiting for the blood panel.

Provided the remainder are normal, we have two theories:

1.  He has an infection in his teeth.
2.  He has been eating all the bird seed that the birds knock out of the feeder, and this has caused big tummy problems.  The monkey has been eating at least a quarter cup of seeds daily since late May.

Bird feeder is gone.  Teeth cleaning will be scheduled soon.  Fingers crossed.

Oh god im just crying for him, pancreatitis is such a horrible painful condition, And our furbabies cant talk to tell us whats going on, we can only know because they arent themselves. Please god let him recover and never have another attack. You really have to be very careful with diet  http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/dog-pancreatitis-symptoms-and-treatment

I love my babies and one is on a really restrictive diet because she almost died from bladder stones.

Andy sure landed on his paws when he found you to love and be loved by.  What a blessing for you both.  Sending prayers and positive thoughts for the best outcome.

I am so glad to hear the good news! You can get beef or poultry-flavored toothpaste for them after this.

When you read other threads,  you must all think I am silly for worrying so much about a pet.  But some days, Andy is the only thing that makes me smile.   Or gets me moving when I have to take him for a walk.

The excellent news is that all tests are normal AND he is back to being a terror with his 60 pound "brother".   It does appear that the big bird seed consumption made him sick.  I suppose it would be equivalent to you or I eating a cup or two of seed every day for three weeks.   Not so good for the tummy.

We do need to get him in for a cleaning soon though.  Andy is a small dog, so reaching his back teeth is a challenge.  Luckily he really loves his daily brushing.  Beef is his favourite.

Thanks for your prayers.  I really do believe they helped.

Carebear,

Andy is part of your family, and technically could even be considered an emotional support animal or even a service animal.

Nothing at all silly about being worried about Andy...nothing at all!!

I'm happy to hear all tests are normal and he's back to his normal self!!

Hugs
