Medscape has an article about using ultrasound to improve on the diagnose of Sjogren's.

"Salivary gland ultrasonography enhances ACR classification of patients with Sjogren's syndrome and in the future should be included in evaluations, according to French investigators."

Here is the link and the rest of the article:

Thanks for posting this.  I read a bunch of articles on medscape today about SjS.  U/S is so technician dependent tho, so I could easily see the ACR rejecting this as inclusion criteria for clinical trials if it were ever proposed.  Seems there is slowly an increasing interest by the pharma companies in coming up with treatments too.  It's something...

Hi  :)

My rheumy referred me to a local dental hospital for a lip biopsy but the professor at the Dental Hospital wanted me to have an ultrasonography as well.

My biopsy was negative but they are going to do the ultrasound every year or so to look for changes as the first one did not show destruction but they did say things looked 'tired'.

I don't know about this.. I had a lip biopsy with a focal score of 3.. and a completely normal ultrasound..  so in my case that theory is useless

I guess the ultrasound is around the jaw line but not really on the lip. Maybe they are looking at different saliva glands
