I bought some new receipt books for my husband's office.  They were not the carbonless kind.  It had one piece of carbon attached in the back.  His receptionist did not know what carbon paper was or what to do with it.  I had to explain that you had to tear out the carbon paper and use the same piece of carbon paper over and over again.

Do I feel old!!!!

I went to a local coffee shop with three friends, the others all said their very complex coffee orders without a hitch, then I asked for a white tea.
This is the conversation I then had with our teenage waitress.

Waitress looked at me perplexed.....Pardon?
Me: I'd like a white tea please.
Waitress even more confused: What's that?
Me: It's a cup of tea with milk in it.
Waitress: We have green tea, peppermint tea, chamomile tea, English Breakfast....
Me interrupting: That's it. Can I have a cup of English Breakfast Tea with milk in it please.
Waitress: Sure.

I didn't realise ordering a cup of Tea was so difficult.
Maybe I'm just getting old.

I frequently work with scans of legal paper documents. You would be surprised how people write. Hey, when there is money involved I write VERY clearly and make sure my wishes are understood on the paperwork. I trace it to not having writing classes in school anymore.

I'm 57 and work with a lot of others younger than I am. Some phrases I use just throw em for a loop. I was going to take a load of buckshot to the ground hog in Feb so no way would he come up and see his shadow.  I had to explain what buckshot was.  I also got to explain the "joys" of a wringer washer and hanging clothes out on the line.

I love the "poetic" in the old phrases.  Not as much joy talking anymore without em.

I used to pick up 'old' book from the early 1900's, a few very late 1800's, to relish the writing style and use of language. Love the way old print and paper feels in the hand.
Then I found out of about "Project Guttenburg" online "The Purpose of Project Gutenberg is to encourage the creation and distribution of electronic books." http://www.gutenberg.us/

Now with students on computer asap. data input, with spell check..  the focus is more on mentally processing information.
Even granddaughter in kindergarten has homework assignment: Read story, how do you 'relate' to the story, what did you like best, how did the story make you feel. Draw a picture of your favorite part.
New Words: write 3x's, use in sentence and illustrate...she also has a math sheet to do.

On my end since not working with students anymore ...
I am now a tech neanderthal, bumbling dong things the old way.  :(
