Joe S.

The past two weeks I have had some health challenges related to CAD. Yesterday I had a fourth stent placed in one of my arteries. I have one candidate for future treatment. CAD runs in my family.

I have reduced my cholesterol over the past year to normal ranges with high doses of omega 3. Recent lit has suggested that 400 to 900 R-lipoic acid reduces insulin resistance. Testosterone replacement is also a factor in CAD.

Low-t and dry skin, dry mouth, dry eyes run in my family. Uncles, gandparent, and many cousins have symptoms of s
Sjogrens and CAD. The men did have low-t based on their hair. Sjogrens attack our glands that produce fluids like testosterone.

The mumps tones plus male or female testosterone tones will increase fluid in your mouth. I will continue my experiments if I can get my doctors assistance.

Joe: congrats on getting your cholesterol numbers good.  You are an inspiration many times over.

I had an ICD implanted so am still ticking - with Cardiac they really know a lot these days so you still have a lot of good living to do and cardiologists on the whole seem to concentrate more on health and healing than some other areas.

Keep in touch if you can.

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. I am doing well. I want every one to keep fighting the challenges they face. Agressive research on our part may lead us to better management or our health challenges.

I am glad you doing better, I hope you are? I am awed by the amount of research and motivation you and others here have to treat their illnesses and push ahead. Meanwhile I see a bottomless pit. I am trying to learn from you all, I just get so sick and tired sometimes I give up. But its great you are feeling better, keep taking care of yourself.

Hi Joe,

So glad they could stent the artery, and are keeping an eye on another one.  Like you I have severe CAD.  I am monitored carefully, as well.

After having the left anterior descending coronary artery (the infamous 'widow maker') which was 95% blocked, stented in 1999, along with one other, I am fortunate to have remained in 'watchful waiting'.

I take 80 mg of Lipitor a day, two capsules of 1400 mg Omega 3, blood pressure medication, and a diuretic just for my heart.  I also take Alpha Lipoic Acid daily, and CO-Q-10.

I am a natural couch potato, but I force myself to exercise because of my heart, and because it helps so many of my conditions (arthritis, neuropathy, interstitial cystitis, etc.).

We live in a 'blame the victim' society when it comes to heart condition.  Everyone is SURE you're doing something wrong.....eating the wrong things, doing no exercise......

It was diagnosed with sky high genetic cholesterol at age 37, with a ring of lipid around both irises of my eyes.  This is a clear sign of high cholesterol.  I was thin, healthy and had no clue there was a problem 'til I noticed my eyes in the mirror one day.

And I also have Xanthomas, Cholesterol Deposits on Eyelids

I don't see myself as fighting Joe....  I see myself as vigilant....and careful.  And I feel myself extraordinarily lucky to have the resources and the knowledge to help me in my vigilance.

Patience, Persistence, and Acceptance, and meditation and relaxation techniques are essential to living every day.

In some ways I find the entire journey fascinating........life is just so interesting.

Elaine, I take 2800 mg of omega-3 twice a day my cholesterol is normal and balanced. I started this after the first stents were put in. The "widow maker" was 100% blocked a year ago. The two to the left were 80 % each. This one was 75% blocked.
