A few fun things we did for her..and ourselves.

When she came into the family room with the tree lite up and presents under the tree the first thing I pointed out out to was : " Lilly, Look what is on the carpet? You know I cleaned it ...are those Stanta footprints? "
I had taken shoes and sprinkled white carpet cleaner (baking soda around them). So there were footprints walking up to the tree. Hoping she would not really notice the scent. I had done this when my children were small.

I put my foot in the print and said, " Look they are too big to be mine. Who could have it be? Santa?"

She put her foot in one and looked and said, "It wasn't me"
She got on her hands and knees, touching it and said it is carpet cleaner (groan). "Are you sure" I asked her, "because it looks like magic to me." So she gave us each a pinch in our hands and said, " Then we must all make a wish"

Thought we would never get to her presents...lol.

We had wrapped some presents in white paper that we drew decorations and pictures on...a huge christmas tree, a Blue bird singing on a bough, etc...she said Grandma "Did you use my crayons?" ..LOL
We got her a pink and black soccer ball and disguised it as Frosty the Snowman...by the time we finished with hat and scarf, twig arms and a nose..he was 15" tall...his head hid a gift a well. We took a paper towel core and put some paints in (washable) and turned that into a candy cane.

The others where wrapped in different colored tissue paper with curling ribbon..because tissue paper is fun to tear into. Our cat enjoyed it too!

We had so much fun wrapping her presents ...watching her reactions, opening her gifts.

At bedtime she took some "magic foot print" up to her room, threw it in the air, "I am going to have a good dreams tonight, it smells like Santa"..she snuggled into bed, quickly off to her dreams.

What a magical day for Lily - even if she did have her suspicions!

Quiet - sounds like grandma had just as much fun getting Lilly's gifts ready, as Lilly did opening them.    :D

Sounds cute - do you happen to have a photo of this?

I miss the days of having a little one here on Christmas morning and the joy of watching them as they open their gifts.  The days of building things with Lego's and Lincoln Logs, watching the race cars zoom around the track, or us sitting down to play Candyland or Chutes and Ladders.

Enjoy the time with your granddaughter - as you know, they grow up waaaaay too quickly!   ;)

OH what fun ! I did the Santa foot prints as well for my son when he was little. I used flour and had prints coming out of the fireplace. I didn't use the fireplace and had potted plants in front it on the hearth that were "accidently knocked over by Santa" when he came out of the fireplace.

The look on my son's face was worth a million dollars to me! He ran to the cookies and milk we left out for Santa and exclaimed " He really was here and he was hungry... he ate all the cookies too!"

I wish I had thought to be as creative in wrapping & presenting his gifts as you were for your grandaughter! What wonderful memories she will have and know the love that went into making her Christmas so special! Your little grandaughter is a very smart little girl! LOL!

No grandchildren yet, but someday...
