Hi I am in Indianapolis, I have been diagnosed with sjogrens and fibromyalgia my Dr said this is what you have, handed me 2 leaflets and that was it, I have a lot of other issues as well, just found out I have colitis and Gerd, my sinuses are always dry, I have tubes in my ears depression, anxiety, this has been going on for over 20 years, anyway each time i contact this Dr. for whatever might be wrong he says sjogrens does not cause that, what do I do now

grammad97

Oh tam1213--
You need a new doctor! Is this doc open to information like printouts or books on sjogrens? Is this your primary or rheumy?
You need a good rheumy. Can you go see another without a referral?
Are you near a big teaching hospital or sjogrens specialist?
My heart goes out to you. I have been there done that with bad doctors.
You need to see one that treats all of your symptoms and one who will work with you.
I hope someone on here knows of someone good to direct you to.
Take care and I will be waiting to hear if you get to see someone good.

Yep...dumped my first rheumy because "there's no way Sjogren's causes depression or cognitive issues..."  At least I wanted someone I could discuss these issues with, not just be shut down.   New rheumy - fantastic.  But it's hard to find someone well versed in Sjogren's.

I think it is a shame that a lot of Rheumy's do not have the skill set for Sjogrens.  I am in Orange County California and I can't find a rheumy that understands sjogrens as of yet.  My rheumy just said have a nice life in the bed.  I just don't know.  Are they even interested in us and our well being?

Hi Tam1213,

My first rheumy did the exact same thing.  I left him and found a new one.
That is ridiculous.

Hi Tam.

I too have a "bad dr."

Mine is gruff, always in a hurry (even when I am the only pt in the office) and does not give any extra info

on sjogrens or on my RA. My first appt he also gave me a brochure on sjogrens but he himself never

explained anything to me and I never even got so much as a brochure when he told me I also have RA!

At the end of my first appt he left the room...came back and stuck his head back in and said

"oh and by the way...you have a increased chance of getting lymphoma now". then he was gone.

at appts if I dare ask a question he always says..."did you get that off the internet?"

"stay off the internet"

I think your going to have to get another rheumy. I am 3 years into my relationship

with mine. I have an appt with him in January and I am going to ask several questions

I have written down....if he cuts me down again......I am going to have my primary dr.

refer me to someone else.

Change rheumy now and save your self some grief.

goodluck.

Eye2dry, that is not a "relationship" unless you count abusive ones. I'd ask for a new one now. Get on the waiting list.

Ditto...sounds like my first one.  My second one is excellent!  Keep trying until you find someone who will listen and tries to help.

Thanks to allwho responded to my post, I am just so frustrated, still fighting to get disability as well. i will find anew rheumy

warmwaters

Yeah sorry to hear it, but echo everyone on the "get a new rheumy " .  I've even had a rheumy say in his notes that I didn't have Sjogren's based on a series of tests he claimed I had, even though I hadn't had those tests!  But he didn't tell me to my face, just said there was nothing I can do.

If you find a good doctor, make it work, because there are a lot of duds out there!

Primary Sjogrens, dx June 2009, Immunoglobulin deficiency, axial spondylosis arthritis, IBS, autonomic neuropathy
Omeprazone DR 40 mg, mobic 15 mg, Plaquenil, LDN, B1, B6, B12, D, fludrocortisone, gralise, various inhalers

Over the years, I have learned that if I don't like my doctor that there are plenty more to try.  My gastro, a few years back, complained that my blood work was escalating and he didn't know what I had but I should go out and enjoy life all that I can because something bad was going to happen to me.  I cried all the way home because I didn't have any obvious symptoms at the time.  I had a new doctor within 4 months.

NEW DOCTOR!

Perhaps more than one.  Certainly you are going to 'kiss some frogs' before you find your "prince/princess" Rheumatologist.

As I said in a post earlier today:  Only we know what courage and effort it takes to get up, get dressed, and get out the door each day!

You deserve the very best care.
