I have a dilemma!

Ok heres the skinny, the people down the road from me have this little dog they never feed or water. It just roams around it will probably get hit or shot. My dilemma is I have been feeding her and watering her, and I have gotten attached in a way. Well come to find out they are moving and they plan on leaving the dog behind or just taking it out in the woods and shooting it. They shot the last two dogs one because it was hurt got attacked by a big dog, and the other because they didnt want it.

They got this dog over the summer and she was just a baby, well they soon abandoned her. So should I go to them and ask to take her. Can I and should I take on another responsibility, when my own future is unsure? I have went over this a million times, and I want to save her, but do I want another dog, esp one that is kinda sickly and abused. My brain says no dont do it, my heart says dont be a cold witch save her! But like I said I have many health problems myself, and a new illness emerging. I just dont know.

I should prob add that I am a pretty emotional person , I have a hard time just going by cold hard facts. I cry when I see a dead dog on the side of the road. So I need people with reason to keep things in perspective.

Ack Tivia,

I cannot stand animals or children in pain or abuse.

I cannot save all the world, either.  Is there a shelter agency or a rescue group you can call?  Do some research.  You can try to help without being the one to take over the responsibility.

Unless that's what you really want.  I'm not good at advising this.  I cannot go to a shelter without leaving in tears, wanting to take every animal home.

Animals can be great comfort to us, I know that.  My logical self tells me that my cats are getting more out of this than I am, but I don't care, I adore them, and they calm and comfort me.  Take me to that calm centered place where they live their days.

I would really really try to find someone to take her after you have done the rescue.  This 'place' or 'family' or whatever it is has a terrible record with their animals, and rescue would surely the the right term.

Best wishes with this dilemma.  Remember, we can't save the world, and our own health and well being are our first responsibility.  Without that we can help no one.

Boy this is hard, because a big part of me wants her..but then I am trying to figure why I want her. Is it truly for her or for me? The so called local shelter might as well be an abattoir they just slaughter the cats and dogs there. Unfortunately this is meth country and that a major part of the population. I will try to find some rescue organization, but good luck getting them to come out to the backwoods lol. This is also a huge dump county  for unwanteds most die by the side of the road.

I really need to move its so darn depressing here, and you look at the most beautiful country and scenery lakes rivers wildlife..and yet meth has ruined this land. Filled it with drug makers and users, and caused a society of care less cruel people. Had to rescue a toddler out in the middle of the state highway one day on my way home. The parents were oblivious he was out there in his diaper!!

The dog already had a better life with you feeding and watering him/her. If your circumstances are where you can take him, I'd do it.  A dog needs #1 a loving home and #2 to be fed & watered.  You are and already provided him stuff that the others did not. I doubt they ever took him to the vet, etc.   So do what you can.  It is 100 times better the life than he had.
He may just end up rescuing you instead of you rescuing him.

PS: I may be prejudice. I have 5 little souls in cat suits.  2 I rescued and 3 others rescued.  They were all abandoned and not taken care of.  I am very much loved and they provide a lot of comfort.

I am the last person who should be joining in here. I have the softest heart on two legs.that is probably why we have a collection of pets. My son had a bad habit of bringing them home and I could never say no. A little over a year ago be found a small dog on the street going up and down everyone steps. We brought her home only to find out she came with a lot of baggage. We wound up keeping her and now we refer to her as the psycho dog with ADHD. But, she really has a wonderful heart and that's why we keep her. That and the fact that our shelter is a kill shelter.

it sounds like your heart really wants her. Sometimes I find that my pets help me through the roughest times. I could not be without them. Somehow I don't think so say no if you want to take her. Then again they may not even miss her. Good luck with your choice.

Hi Tivia.

Grab up that little white dog and run home with it.

You will love it and it will love you back a 100 fold more!

I have sjogrens and RA, my little terrier is 6 years old , I am his main care giver.

He gives me so much, he listens to my venting and complaining, stays by my side.

Yes, I have to let him outside to potty.....and at times I am stiff and don't want to get up. And yes, I

bathe him, clip nails,etc.......but we love each other.

************coincidence.....I have spotted a little white dog (probably Chihuahua) several times on my long

country road, walking along on the berm, drinking out of a ditch, out in a field in the rain.

Don't know whose it is but I keep a dog carrier in my car and I am just going to dog-nap it....

I want him.......(or maybe it's a her) I've got room and enough stamina for this one too.

If nothing else, please take him in and try to get it another home.

You have such a good heart, there are others that would just look the other way.

I have never regretted rescuing a dog. Especially from such evil people.

Don't leave us in suspense! What did you do?

I'd vote to keep the dog!  Pets are great companions and therapy both emotional and physical!

How about you keep it and try to find a home for it if you think you can't take care of it for good?

I havent talked to them yet, they are scary people. I am getting up my courage and figuring out how to say it without sounding confrontational. They are just the type to kill it to spite someone who cares about her, so I have to be very careful how I approach them. I am still feeding and watering her and petting her, and letting my little baby get used to her so there isnt a big shock.

slccom

How about offering to help them with the moving by removing responsibility for the dog? Say you know what a big chore moving is and that while you can't do much to help them, you can do that much.

Yeah I will think of something to say, I keep thinking when they pull away for good they will just leave her behind and I can get her lol..wishful thinking. She is kinda feral I think I mean she is super friendly and sweet, but she seems to be so used to living in the woods and only coming out to play with the kids and for food. I think she may have a rough time adapting to a fenced yard.

Well I have a new family member. Early this morning animal control picked up the dog because a lady down the road called. I got my courage up and went over and asked them what they planned on doing with the dog. They said they cant keep her, so I said I can take , they agreed. I went and got her from the pound, and now I am settling her in. We are in the yard for now till I can get her calmed down and used to being fenced. Then we may make a slow adjustment to indoor living. I take her to my vet on monday I am sure she has worms and fleas. My little dog is getting used to her lol, but she keeps looking at me like, the new dog isnt queen bee right?  :)
