I have awfull heartburn, lower stomach pain and feel bloated.

I am taking plaquenil and it seems to make matters worse, but every other part of me feel so much better on Plaquenil.

I have seen to gastroenteorologists and just end up with "you have IBS, eat more fiber"

Fiber makes matters worse. I have quit gluten and that helps.

I have no idea whether to take anti acids, inhibitors or what to do?
Newly diagnosed i 2012 with Sjogren's and feeling like crap. Just started Plaquenil and try to learn to live with the new me. Also joined by temporal lope epilepsy, auramigraines and PCO.

a little aloe juice with a tsp of honey for heartburn, magnesium for ibs and supposed to help sleep too.  dr oz says 250 mg at night.  take the fiber and drink lots of water.

My shkin - I take omeprazole once a day since being on plaquenil to help with the GI distress that I get from the plaquenil, it helps.  I also make certain I eat with the plaquenil or have a full stomach.

Unfortunately, you will read many posts where folks who have sjogrens often encounter GI distress and issues and when you add plaquenil to your medication list, it can cause GI issues as well.

I would listen to the previous posters suggestions as well.

Hoping you feel better soon.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers.

Myshkin,

I got sick from plaquinil for the first several months and then it seemed to subside. I also have a lot of GI issues/ reflux. I just do OTC Prilosec or the like.

Sometimes it can be your equilibrium and/or sinus issues. It's so hard to tell what is what with AI's. Lots of trial and error.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Love your screen name by the way! He's by far my all time favorite fictional character... Tragic as he is. =)

I have been on nexium and it works for my ibs were the over the counter meds did not work. Do try to find your food triggers. I for example could not do the aloe vera juice and honey. I can eat honey occasionally, but where I to take a tsp of honey everyday I would be in the er within three days. And I love baklava! That put me in the er the last time and I really learned my lesson on that one. I too have a gastro who just waves of my ibs issues as a fance name for a common problem, but no treatment. He did give me the necium though for gerd and it helps me all around.

Hi  :)

I take Omeprazole every day or I get terrible heartburn. I also have a hiatal hernia though which doesn't help matters.

Another possible cause for heartburn is Helicobactor pylori. Have you been tested? Simple test and simple to eliminate but worth testing for.

Take care - Scottie  :)

PS - I agree with others to always eat before taking Plaquenil.
