This past year I have been chair of a committee for Marscon 2013 (www.marscon.com) here in Minnesota. The event happened last weekend. We had 843 people at the sci-fi convention. Costuming, Dementia music, Authors, Media guests of honor, scientists, gamers, and many others. Room parties, Food, dealers room, artists room, discussion panels, EMTs, and Security.

The event went well because I had a good staff. I could not do a lot of physical activity but I was a director. I am told by a lot of people that it was the best MarsCon in 15 years. I am in the process of wrapping up the books this month.

Oh Joe, it is good to hear about this event. I remember you telling about this in the past. It seems that your wife did a lot of cooking for this at times. I hope I remember that correctly. Glad that you were able to do this up good again. It is good to have some fun thing to look forward to. Irish

Jan cooked 3 meals per day + snacks for about 100 people, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

How fun! I bet you are glad it is only once a year. Your wife, too.

I am glad that it is over and I do not have to do it again. After this year, I have streaks of gray that I did not have last year. The broken leg and heart issues added to the gray.

The wrap up and bookkeeping are left to finish. It looks like we may have made some money to donate to our charities. I will be working on the books for this year this afternoon.

That is awesome! We're big on sci-fi/geeky stuff (my daughter is re-watching "Firefly" as I sit here typing this) in our house - those events can be really fun.

Congratulations!  ;D

Theme next year deals with time. One of the watchers from Fringe is our media guest of honor. We are expecting a lot of Steam Punk costumes (Victorian dress with strange gadgets) at the convention. I have heard rumors that a film crew is working on developing a reality show based on what our costumers go through for these conventions.

I have a few to try to attend in the future:
Minnicon, Anime Detour, Spring Con, Fall Con, WindyCon, KeyCon, ValleyCon, CoreCon
These are just a few. The first two I am registered for and I am booked to present at ValleyCon. They can represent a fun day away from mundane or muggle lifestyles. And yes I often where one of my wizards costumes or my 1880's explore costume to these events. The explores costume just adds a compass, a hat, and character to my regular clothing.
