MY PT TODAY WITH A SUPERSIZE LADY IN THE POOL

This is how my water therapy went today.  It might be funny now, but it wasn't then.  The "pool" I am talking about is like the "endless pool" which is a small pool that some people put in their house, dr's offices use it for therapy.  The water is warm and I don't know the dimensions of the pool, maybe 8' wide and 15' long.  There is 3 depths and they are drop-off, not graduated.  1/3 is 3', 1/3 is 4' and 1/3 is 5'.  I can't use the 5' because then I'm up to my scalp in water.  So I can only use the 4' as the 3' leaves me mostly out of the water.

I am usually the only one in the pool, although one day a lady was in with me and she was very tiny and used the 3' area, so we did fine.  Today when I went to open the shower/bathroom/changing door--it was locked and then I could hear the shower running.  I'm thinking it's my PT time and I'm just standing here.  I had my suit on under my sweats, so I just whipped them and my shoes off and got in the pool.  Then, comes out of the bathroom a very large woman whom I had seen in there before.  PT patients are supposed to take priority over "gym" persons and I was PY and she was gym.  She should have gone out and worked on any of the many machines.

She was doing what ever she wanted and standing on the 4' level in the middle so she could walk against the current she had turned on.  Well, I had about 12" of pool space wwith the wall there and then the force of the "current" swept me off into the 5' and I was all wet. duh. I do not use the current and this woman said she had weighed 380 lbs and now weight 240 lbs.  Right, and i weigh 100 lbs too.  Not.  Then she got some floats out and started flopping them around and hitting me in the head with her "workout" devices.  I was mad and kept giving the PT dirty looks.  I will email her before my Monday PT as I am not going in the water with that whale woman with her floating noodles.  I had a headache as she talks very loud and it's hard to hear in there because of the sound of water. 

The very top of my experience today was when she told me she "had an incontinence problem."  I'm sharing a very small pool with her and that's the last thing I want to hear.  Basically, today was ruined for exercise and I'm going to see if they will add on a free session.   I hope you can laugh about this as I did when I told my sister the story over the phone tonight.  Lucy

Lucy, your PT should have seen your dilemma and rescheduled your session.   If your session had priority over the lady's, it was your PT's place to inform her of that.  She owes you.

Lucy, You have my sympathy. The "incontinence" remark would have sent me ballistic. I hope you have a better place to go for PT. Irish

That SUCKS. She needs to leave you in peace - I applaud her efforts to become healthier, but if she can't share the pool nicely, medical PT definitely takes priority over plain exercise.

I had pool therapy today and was the only one allowed to be in the pool at that hour.  I am doing "land exercises" tomorrow and will wonder how I'll do at that --at least the showering and wet bathing suit will not be a factor tomorrow.

Lucy thank you for sharing this story with us.

I had a very sad day with news of a friend's death from an old job I had years ago. He was a kind and intelligent man with a lovely family who fought his illness incredibly hard.

I know it was NOT comfortable sharing the pool with the crazy noodle woman who did whatever she wanted to during your PT session. I hope you do get a free session the next time you need pool therapy.

But your story did help me to laugh through some of my tears tonight.
