I got a tetanus and pertussis vaccination that I was a little over due for Friday. They put it almost on top of my shoulder which was a little odd to me but I thought maybe they do that so you don't have tenderness on your arm. Well now my lymph node around my collar bone is swollen and very painful. I was curious if this is due to the immune issues with Sjs or just par for the course?  If anyone else has had this please share your experiences. :)

On Friday, I  got the same shot in the 'usual' area of the upper arm; not as high as your injection.  The area of my injection is sore and swollen - not as bad, today.

That spot looks like a goose egg but the lymph node is very swollen. :/

Thinking you should call your doctor if it doesn't go down

I've only ever had one tetanus shot and that was 53 years ago. My whole arm swelled up so much I couldn't bend my elbow and my fingers looked like sausages.
I never had a booster shot and I never will.

oddly enough, when my youngest daughter got a booster shot in her teens, she had a horrible reaction. She thought she was bent up but she was so straight she was practically leaning backwards. She couldn't move her neck and spent two days having awful tremors. I wouldn't let her have any shots for anything after that.

I hope you feel better soon.

Take care - Scottie

Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow!

I had a terrible reaction to the tetanus shot too. It was years ago and my arm swelled up and I felt I'll for days. I am very allergic to thimerosol, which is the preservative used in the vaccine. It's also in the flu vaccine.

I would call your doctor. The swollen lymphnodes is a bit alarming.

I hope you have a better day today.

AAACGRL

Thanks all. I'm going to call them tomorrow. I started vomiting tonight so I am not sure if it's from the shot or if the lymph node is swollen because I was sick and didn't know it yet. We'll see.

Keep in mind that tetanus is  a really horrible way to die. If you don't have any issues with the vaccine, don't skip it!

Slccom-Oh I agree 100%!

I'm just trying to figure out what's coming from what. So please don't let my questions disrupt you from getting vaccinated. I'll just know in 10 years when it's time for this again to be more prepared.

I hope you are feeling better. How is it going?

I had my shot a year ago, and luckily for me I had no reaction at all.  The nurse did warn me about the swelling that you described though.  She said it happens to most people.  I'm sorry that you have been in so much pain and I hope you are feeling better.

Im confused are we supposed to get this shot regularly? I thought you got it if you had a bite or cut or something. Isnt tetanus from like dirt and saliva?

A tetanus shot is good for 10 yrs. However if you have an accident, I stepped on a rusty nail when I was walking in sand then you get a booster shot just to be safe.

My shot caused swelling in my arm and the puncture site was very itchy. It calmed down after a few days.

Well I saw a nurse practitioner today and I have cellulitis and some sort of infection going on. I guess the burning feeling is from the cellulitis. This is not at the injection site, it's further up around my neck but on the same side as where the shot was given. So they say this could have been a secondary infection from the administration of the shot (now that I think of it, I don't think the nurse put those alcohol wipes on my skin before giving the tetanus and flu shot). I still have a fever and I just started on some antibiotics. They advised that I may have issues with the vaccine allergy wise too and so I'm to take the Td instead of the Tdap combo. So who knows. I just want to feel better. My neck feels like it's on fire and my lymph nodes are so puffed up it's not funny. We'll see if the meds take care of it. :) I'm not advising anyone to follow my lead on future shots, my body reacts in crazy ways. I'm allergic to some antibiotics now too so...
Thanks for all the replies and follow ups everyone! Take care!
