Get your creative juices flowing folks!!!!

We are on our way to generating a Sjogren's Art Exhibit!!!! YaY!

After some research I realized that I don't have the funds or the business development knowledge to form a 501c. sigh...

So! I contacted the Sjogren's foundation, signed up to be an ambassador and then sent them a letter proposing an exhibit and in it, I explained about all you wonderful, talented people that were willing to create the Sjogren's story with art, essays, poetry, etc.

Well...today they called me back! They loved the idea and they want to start a discussion and seemed excited about it.

So get your pens and brushes ready. Take your vitamins and supplements. Eat right and get your rest. 'Cause we are gonna ROCK this HOUSE!!!!

So, I need you to commit once again so I can get a good count on what we will be submitting to the showing.

The art should be descriptive of what Sjogren's: is, how it impacts your life, how it makes you feel, etc.

Let's face it, no one can really explain it, like a Sjogren's patient.

okay..??? so this can be from an artist standpoint of any kind right?  essay's, poems. short stories, sculpture, music, photography???etc.  any type of artistic medium?  I am really impressed that they are interested in us  This speaks volumes to the interest of what we are dealing with and how WE can show it in a way that we can express it.

Ever since the olympics and all the stuff said about the wonderful athletes, I have felt somewhat inadequate.  And someone had mentioned that the people that are on the board are the ones that have it worse or cannot move on with our lives by adjusting better..It made me feel a little less than...But this is something that we all can step up to the plate with.

An art exhibit can be a reflection of how we feel, live, and get by.  I try to adjust to these never ending processes and it is just hard when a new one pops up. This is a way I can say so!  Now to only decide on what way to go.  I am no artist, but I can do abstract as good as anyone..lol.  or dabble with a poem or story.  And I can use a camera, hmmm...maybe not the way to go, if it is of me.haha..i can try watercolor or chalks...

Well, you can count me in!  I wanna play for a change and I think I can do it this way.. Can we use like a vinyl cutter..sure i bet so...

Put my name down on that list...This is gonna be fun!   YAY!!  I bet there will be some really good and fun stuff show up!
And you are right nobody can say it like a sjoggie!       ~sass~

I'm tentatively in - like I mentioned in the other thread, I would love to contribute a short essay or poem, it just depends on how much I have to prepare something.

iraisin, this is so wonderful that you have taken the time to do this! Thank you for helping to raise awareness!

I love you beautiful people!

I spoke to SF again today. There is some research to do and some decisions will be forthcoming on how to handle the set up. In the meantime, she will be talking with the CEO of SF about this effort.

She was excited about it, and felt like it was a really good idea. Her daughter studies fine art and I feel she has a good grasp on how impactful art can be.

I am grateful to you all that want to be a part of making things better for us and the future sjoggies of the world.

I am so happy right now!

     What a great idea!
As a quilter, i have thought about trying a quilt about Sjogren's, but no real vision has popped into my brain.   Guess I need to let the creative juices flow and see what comes up. Hmmmm.

Thank you for your offerings. We're looking at an online auction sort of thing and using an online print service for the print sales. Working with someone who has some great ideas for getting sponsorship.

I'm also looking for someone with some web design skills. SF may have someone on staff, but would like to have more insight on that process before I talk with them again so I sound somewhat intelligent about it.

More to come.

Quilt4fun,

Does that mean you don't want to participate? Or just that you can't advise on the tech stuff?

BTW, I was at St. Luke's hospital the other day and noticed a quilt for the Heart Association in a glass case - it was beautiful and filled with some really uplifting quotes. Personally, I can't figure out how people are able to wield a needle like that.

Oh, sorry, iraisin,  I meant that i can't advise on the tech stuff!!
Guess I should have reread my post!

Quotes on a quilt -- I'll add that to my possibility list.

What are you needing as far as a tech person?

I may or may not be the person you are looking for. If nothing else I am sure I can point you in the right directions. Please let me know what you need advise about.

As far as selling/auctioning merchandise is concerned....

If you are just looking to auction off a few pieces of art, then the most trouble free way to handle it is just to set up an ebay store and link everyone to it. Paypal will handle the financial and liability aspect as long as they get their cut. All you really have to worry about is announcing the auction and shipping the sold items.

If you are wanting to handle things "in house" you are going to want to find web hosting that can handle e-commerce, like lots of views and secure logins. Also you are going to want to find a merchant services provider to accept credit and debit cards online.

They are a dime a dozen so for more information google is your friend  :D http://bit.ly/TiSwGL   :D

I know the Alzheimers have a thing where small quilts even like 12" by 12" completed are sent in monthly as donations that go to be auctioned off and some have been displayed in museums, hospitals, etc. to increase awareness.

The theme is just whatever is related in the eye of the person creating their quilt that expresses something relevant.

I haven't made one for them yet, but have made one for swaps on quilting places just for the leisure of it, and experience.

I have a great idea for a painting.  I hope it comes out the way I see it in my head!  It's a big teardrop but inside the tear drop is a desert with dusty, cracked ground.  Maybe I can incorporate a photo into the tear drop instead since my painting hand is less than helpful lately  ::).  maybe make it a multi-media art piece.

I chose this because I have tears, but just the water part, not the oil part.  So my tears are 'dry'.
