When asked today after her second round victory how her energy level was, Venus Williams replied "I have Sjogrens every day and it is a learning process and I am learning to deal with it."

Go Venus!

And Shannon Boxx -- another Olympian, on the women's soccer team, who battles every day with Sjogren's and Lupus -- don't ask me how!

These women give me hope, though.

They are so impressive; a reminder that many of us cope daily and are also impressive!
Sjogrens, Stills disease, Acromegaly, Interstitial cystitis

Plaquenil, Prednisone, Octreotide injectable, Crestor, Xanax

It is impressive.

I wonder how fantastic I would be with a personal trainer and dietician to help me battle this everyday. While I'm wishing, I may as well ask for a personal chef and housekeeper too! And an accountant, and ....

I think we are doing really well considering we don't have a team taking care of our every need and the fact that we are taking care of MOST of the needs of our families and home chores.

i work in a very hot environment in the summer, raise 2 well behaved kids that make straight A"s, tend to a bunch of animals and the running of a two story household... I have Sjogrens every day and it is a learning process and I am learning to deal with it :)

...not to take away from the Olympians because God knows how they do it, I surely do not!

Wonderful! Glad to hear it being discussed and not dismissed! More power to them...

iraisin,

Boy you nailed it too.. I see so many of us struggle and have no help, in fact we have higher hurdles to jump than the track team will...Full time jobs, spouses, children, cooking, cleaning, homework that in itself is scary, laundry, baths, church, looking lovely, driving, carpools, doctor visits, dental, insurance,  decissions to make encouraging and bills....and we do all these things for a lot of us with no money to spare.

I often wonder where in the world I left my superwoman cape...dang brain fog!   ~sass!

I HAVE SJOGREN'S AND AM LEARNING TO AMMEND MY LIFE IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH IT!

Here is the recipe:

Almond Chocolate Mousse Cake

Preheat oven to 350F.

Soak 1/2 cup chia seeds in 1 cup water for 15 minutes. (I used Bob's Red Mill)

Melt in heavy pan on low heat:
7 oz dark (70% cocoa) chocolate  (I used Trader Joe's)
        1/2 cup unsalted butter
Let it cool.

Separate 5 eggs which have been at room temp. (If cold from fridge, set them in warm water for 3-4 minutes before cracking them.)

Beat the egg whites with 1/3 cup maple syrup until it stands in soft peaks. Set aside.

Beat egg yolks with 2/3 cup honey or maple syrup or agave, until light.

Add 1 tsp almond extract to egg yolks.

Add and mix in chocolate and butter.

Add 2 cups almond flour or ground almonds. (I used Trader Joe's)  --or substitute hazelnut flour.

Fold in egg whites.

Pour into 9" springform pan that has been lined and greased. (I spray the pan, and line only the bottom with parchment, which I also spray)

Bake for 40-45 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes before releasing spring.

Note: I adapted this recipe from one on the Bob's Red Mill chia seed package.

It is gluten free.  The dairy is butter, which I can eat because butter does not have casein.

This cake reminds me of a Ukrainian poppyseed cake-- a little crunchy, but rich and moist.  Keeps well if refrigerated.  Seems more dense and rich after being in the fridge.

Enjoy--
