I came home from my 10 year anniversary trip to New York it was fantastic other than my tongue issues I had a great time. I was so happy to see my kids we were watching TV and my 9 year old son complained again about his eyes. Is not the first time and is not always. My heart started melting I cant help it. Im crying and cant stop thinking Sjogrens. I always tell God that if someone has to suffer is me not them. I was going to work for a few hours tomorrow but I wont go anymore, Im taking him to the optometrist. I know I probably just over reacting but IM SCARED. Im the first one in my family with AI. All of my grandparents die really young in their early 40s. I always wonder if they had an AI, they live in Mexico resources were limited, I have an aunt with Lupus but she is not blood related. I just needed to vent, not even my husband understand my frustration about this. I would feel guilty and frustated if they develop sjogrens.  I use to think Lupus was the worst, then I thought RA was the worst that was until I learned about SJOGRENS. I know Lupus and RA both have their bad side but at least there hope to put them in remission while sjogrens never stops.

Cindy - glad you enjoyed your 10 yr. anniversary trip to NY.   ;D  Congratulations!

I know it's hard to not worry when our children have complaints about their eyes and mouths and we can't help but wonder . . . do they have Sjogren's too?

It could be allergies.  With it "officially" summer - the allergies can go crazy. Do you have any indoor pets? - that could be a culprit too.

It wouldn't hurt to have your sons eyes checked out, but I wouldn't worry about Sjogren's until you've been told otherwise.

Hoping for the best.

I think its the allergies too!!!

Try not to fret...one day at a time. Even if he does develop sjogrens, hopefully, better medications, etc will be available for him.

Healthcare has come a long way since your grandparents time. I think it is safe to say that a bunch of us would not be here if it wasn't for the advances in medicine, etc. since then.

Have you checked with an optomologist or an allergist for your son? I know allergies are hitting a lot of people pretty hard this year. Eye drops just might do the trick. I have dry eyes and just use OTC stuff which works for me. Talk to the eye dr about that too.   Good Luck!

Oh, Cindy, I so understand your worry!! My five year old is my clone - we're not sure how much of my husband's genes she actually got  ;D Everyday she complains of something hurting her and I am terrified she has lupus. She has already seen a pediatric rheumatologist, and we've discovered she has celiac disease, her ANA came back slightly positive nucleaolar, she had a sudden tonic seizure a couple of weeks ago... it's one health issue after the other... just like her mommy  :'(

Both of my daughters have allergies, and allergies can definitely make the eyes hurt, itch, water, burn, etc. But having these things checked out is a really good idea - thank goodness I had my daughters tested for celiac disease because they both have it and now I can start them on a gluten-free diet before horrible damage occurs!
SLE and SjS with PN. ANA >1:1280 speckled,
SS-A >8.0, RF positive. Botox for migraines, Clonazepam, Zoloft, Imitrex for migraines, CellCept 1000 mg, Plaquenil 200 mg, Restasis, Zofran for nausea, Gabapentin, Evoxac and Norco for pain.

I think the exact same thing with every complaint.

The sun is shining here and the kids are sleeping. Can't think of anything better to say than that!!!!

Hugs and we'll think of you.

I'll bet it's allergies d/t the onset right now....grass, trees, flowers all in bloom. Allergies will make your eyes burn, itch,red,...etc..and even blurs your vision.

My 30 year old daughter had to stop wearing her contacts a few years ago b/c her eyes are too dry and she is tired all the time...sleeps alot. I have tried to get her to see a doctor to be checked for AI issues but she will not go.

I am hoping your son has just seasonal allergies......and that in itself can be no fun.

Cindy

We went to the doctor is allergies.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I very relieved for now, I also had a consult and my dryness is better. I really think flaxseed is helping this is my 2 month taking them, they are still dry but better,

Thank you for all your support I would be lost without you.

I hear what you are saying. There isn't a darn thing we can do about this though.

We didn't know that we would have autoimmune disease. I didn't feel good when I was pregnant all three times but no one ever tried to find out what was wrong. My DIL asked me one day if I would have chosen to not have children had I known.

I told her I didn't know and never suspected until later. Thankfully, I didn't have to decided whether to have children or not. Mine all have "issues" and a couple of them have definite autoimmune stuff. They just choose not to do more testing than necessary to prevent their health insurance from skyrocketing. The day will come when they will have to face the music.

The best we can do as parents is to make sure we have a positive attitude and not tell the kids more than they need to know. Only tell them when they ask or if there are some things that need to be abided by when they are away from home. Hard for us to swallow, but there is no alternative.

WE can just all say a prayer for each other's children. Irish
