All this crazy apt searching has shown me is that in my price range I'm just trading one problem for another if I move.  I'm going to go in and try talking to the property manager on Monday when I pay the rent.  I heard thru the grapevine that she was asking around about why I decided to move and that they intend to rent to people w/ vouchers again.  She's been notified by now of the seriousness of the repairs necessary to collect on rent vouchers in the future so maybe they do intend to do the repairs.  I don't know but if they will repair everything I'd like to stay.  It sure would be less trouble and less expense for me.  The inspector sent me a copy of the repair list and it is as long as he said it would be... she has her copy by now as well.  All I can do is make sure she's seen it and is willing to do what they told her and then I don't see why I can't take back my notice to vacate.  GG

I'm sure if they have notice of the repairs, they ill have to do them regardless of you moving out or staying. Who else will take on the property that has so much wrong with it?

Talk to them, and I am sure they would sooner keep you as a tenant than, not have it rentable, perhaps you could come to some arrangment where you pay less rent until the program of work is carried out?

Okay... I'm staying.  They didn't know about the repairs but they say they will do them.  I gave them my copy of the failed inspection to photocopy since they don't seem to have one.  She still didn't notice that it says it has to have a new roof.  That's pretty expensive and that's why I was wondering about it.  They don't seem to like to spend money to make it.  LOL  But I have her assurance that they will make all the repairs before the deadline even if she failed to see what she was agreeing to.  She does have the list now.  GG

Well, that takes a load off your mind. The only thing is your landlord is probably in shock if she read the whole thing. It is expensive to replace a roof and chances are they knew it needed to be done.

I would stay hot on their trail so they get to the other issues that will help make your life better. Hopefully, the roof doesn't leak yet!!! Please keep us updated on how this is going for you. It is hard to have to move. So much work and planning and changes which are hard to adjust to.

However, I also think it is kind of exciting to move to a new area, but that is only when it is something that is half way decent. One place we lived when we were first married had the worst kitchen, yukky. Glad I don't have to put up with that any more. Good luck. Irish

MissyLouWho?

I would send any more communication about this through a certified letter.  That way if they fail to do what they said, they can't say they never got the list or you said it was okay to take their time (essentially them taking forever to get started...) or yadda yadda yadda....  I'd send them a copy of the list through certified mail as well.  Just to cover your own behind.  I have found especially lately with all the economic/money issues people are going through that they are becoming ruthless.  They will watch out for themselves only and do you in for the tiniest gain.  Sad.  Just cover yourself.

Irish- Oh yes they know about the roof.  LOL  It's hard to miss and I'm no expert.  Plus I've been complaining since the first time it rained hard about the waterfall that happens over my bathroom door.  I know it's not an easy problem to find because it doesn't happen with every rain.  Only with rain and wind and maybe there is something about the amount of rainfall.  But even an intermittent problem is a serious one after a year of it.  And they've never seriously considered doing more than going "Oh yeah that's strange" everytime I end up running thru the rain to get to my toilet.  LOL

MissyLouWHo- I guess that is one advantage to being on section 8 is they are responsible to get their notices and respond within the time frames mandated and I'm not supposed to even be involved.  That's between the county housing authority and them.  If they don't do it, they don't get paid until they do.  It's only two weeks until that deadline but from what I hear they can't remove me if they don't pass their inspection.  They just don't get paid until they do.  I wonder if that applies to my portion.  LOL  But even if it doesn't, I'm just keeping records as they are sent to me.  This happened once before in New Orleans, but the house was actually condemned as inhabitable.  That's what I was trying to avoid this time.  I think that inspector was trying to actually press charges for fraud because they said in my lease they'd pay my utilities knowing all the time that the house only had one meter and the other side of the duplex was paying all my utilities.  I heard she won a law suit against them.  Meanwhile I still have to show that paper work if I want to rent because they marked my credit saying that I destroyed the house to make it inhabitable in the two months I lived there.  LOL  No one believes them once they see the inspectors letter.  But I have to keep it because other wise no one would rent to me.  Slum lords suck.  GG

Sigh

When you need a roof, you NEED A ROOF.

And putting it off only makes for more problems!

Sometimes I think people have their heads in weird places (anatomical ones, at that).

Hope all goes well, ashewoman.

Keep us posted.

Ashewoman.

I am glad you get to stay and much more pleased that you get to stay with the repairs being made.

I know you dreaded moving....and it seems you have been spared from it.

keep after them to do the right thing.

I tell you what ladies... as exhausting as it is to do laundry or wash my hair... I seriously don't know how I could have packed all this stuff up or transported it anyway.  LOL  I was so achy today-- walking to the mail box was a monumental effort and its just on the other side of the house attached to the outside wall by the drive way.  My grandmother used to have to walk half a mile to the mail box-- downhill to get to it and uphill to get back.  I can't imagine that and I'm probably half her age.

On a side note-- I ordered one of those paraffin spas today to help with some of the foot and hand pain.  I had no idea they were so affordable.  Why pay someone else to paint my toes frequently just to get the pain relief from the paraffin?  Since I can't paint them myself, maybe I'll still go by now and then but the price of the home unit was about the same as one trip to salon.  Storage space is going to be somewhat problematic but I think I can prioritize because pain relief has gone way up the list lately.  Is it just me or does anyone else trip constantly?  I feel like a bumbling stooge only it's not funny how much I trip on everything.  I may post this a 2nd time under it's own heading... so don't be surprised if you see it twice.  GG
