Salagen

Did it take any of you a little bit to get use to having more saliva than normal when taking this?  I just started yesterday and I was not use to the "continual flow". I guess my mouth must be more dry than I thought. I almost seemed to have to talk different. LOL.  Only bummer is it wears off faster than I'd like and my doctor says I cannot take the full dose because of my blood pressure meds.

Salagen started working quickly for me and has no side effects.  I like it but only take it if I need to.   Strange thing but since I started Restasis (which decreases inflammation of the tear ducts) I seem to have more saliva and haven't needed to use the Salagen as often....it's been  a couple of weeks since I felt so dry I took some but when I need it there's sure lots of saliva!

I am curious. How does Salagen effect blood pressure meds?

Drylady- I think for me they said it can lower my heart rate or blood pressure. So taking the full 3x a day might be a little risky. I am on a beta blocker and then another b/p med so I guess it's the beta blocker that the pharmacy says has a moderate interaction with Salagen or Evoxac. I wish my primary would put me on another bp med but he refuses so..

I don't take Salagen, take Evoxac though.  It took me a little while to get used to the increased saliva, I would sometimes drool before remembering to swallow!  but not it isn't an issue.  I usually noticed it the first hour or so after taking it, then was OK.  I am also on beta blockers for my BP (atenolol) but my doctor and pharmacist haven't said anything.  I searced several years ago and it didn't come up as having interactions, maybe your doctor would switch you to Evoxac if it is OK to take with beta blockers.  Just a thought.

Count me in on the beta blocker, too, with drs never saying anything.  I have taken Salagen, but Evoxac is better, but much pricier.  Also after I've been taking it a couple of years, it is not as effective as it was and sometimes I end up taking a 4th pill in a day. 

Seems it doesn't work as well as it did.  Perhaps I should go back to Salagen and see if that gives me a boost in the saliva dept.  Sometime if you stop taking something (Evoxac), it ill work better if you start it back up after a few months.  Dryness is one of my top complaints and just seems to get worse.  I'd had the drooling also on both meds.  I've not had it in a long time with Evoxac unless I took it before bed and sometimes my pillow is wet.  A washcloth under my face or a hand towel over the pillowcase takes care of that.  Lucy
