I have a friend who is a native of Kings Island off the coast of tasmania. lives in Ohio now. I will ask her.
I do know she said Austrailia has it's winters as well. told me on Kings Island of chopping wood for cooking and heating. no electric, used large batteries. had to go by ferry to see dr. on Tasmania, if need ER care.. need to be flighted out to mainland.
thats when she was living at home, she is now 50. I imagine things have modernized by now. But way to primitive for me

I say go for it Joe...

Thanks, I will see if he still wants to pay for my trip. He has asked me to help him with some challenges that his businesses have faced.

Hi Joe
We go every secound year to Tassie on holidays for 12 weeks and we find that the best time is Jan to March, April /May is starting to get a bit cold.

We just love Tassie and would love to sell up and move down there .

Heaps to do and lots to see you should enjoy it.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheryl

This is only a very rough idea and it will depend on where you are, we have friends that live in Dover he tells us that there is a saying in Tasmania that goes "If you don't like the Tassie weather then hang around for ten minute's because it could change." We were up in the great lakes area last year in Feb trout fishing and it was snowing then.

I don't know what it is in your lingo, April during the day 17 to 13 Deg Celsius, night 11 to 2 Deg Celsius.
May 15 to 9 deg Cel Daytime, night 9 to 0 cel, as i said this is a very rough idea.

I hope that gives you some sort of an idea.

Cheryl

Joe S.

Your saying reminds of what they say about Minnesota. Dress for fall and early winter here. Thanks for your help, I hope to make the trip.

Boy, Joe, the temp sounds more doable than having it terribly hot. You can always put on more clothes.
I sure hope that you can get on that trip. Good thing your wife has had her surgeries so you don't have to worry about her. Good luck. Irish

Joe S.

I turned down the option last time because I wanted to stay here and take care of her. Her scars are still bothering her.

Go to weather.com, enter a city in TAsmania, like Hobart, Australia.  When the day's weather shows up, click Monthly.  Then at the bottom of the next screen, click Averages.  You'll get a nice graph of average highs and lows throughout the year, along with avg. rainfall for each month.  (I armchair travel a lot.)

Hi Joe,

Lucky you, planning a trip to Tassie. The vast majority of Aussies haven't been there and it is one of the many places to see on my bucket list.

April/May is late Autumn so the temperatures would certainly be getting down, although what is freezing for us Aussies is probably just cold for you Northern Hemisphere dwellers.

eye2dry - King Island is still a very remote place, it is in the middle of Bass Strait (the body of water between Tasmania & the mainland) so it is no surprise they had to fly off to see a Dr. There are lots of isolated towns on the mainland that also only have access to our Flying Doctor Services.

Joe - One thing to remember - I'm 99% sure you cannot fly directly from LA or San Francisco to Tasmania, you will need to stopover / change planes in either Sydney or Melbourne. It is a long flight, so if you have the time, it would be nice to stop in both places, one on the way over and the other on the way back.

So much to see, so little time.

If I fly, it is because my host needs me there to pick my brain of information from over 40 years of research and experience that he can not do via skype. (I would like to go and take my wife or SIL)
