Anyone have head pain that only lasts for15 seconds or so?

Hi Everyone,

I've had my share of headaches and they tend to last a while.  I take some tylenol, and they eventually fade, not too big of a deal.  They're not excruciating, they're just bad enough to make me really grouchy.   :-\

Anyway, for the past month or so, I've had these instances of shooting pain in my head just behind my left ear, always in the same spot.  It only lasts for about 15 seconds or so, then goes away.  It's bad enough where I have to stop what I'm doing and press on the spot until it subsides.  It started out as maybe happening 2 or so times per day and is now up to 6+ times.

I've vaguely remember reading (some site found via google) about it possibly being nerve pain from neck swelling.  I've had a lot of lymph node swelling and swelling underneath my jaw on my right site on and off for over a year now.  Has anyone else had this (the head pain I mean)?

Thanks,

Susan

I have that exact same kind of pain, on the left side of my head and also forehead. I take a small dose of nortriptyline which seems to keep my "regular" auto-immune headaches in line, but the neurologist suggested I might want to increase the nortriptyline to stop the shooting pains and to help the peripheral neuropathy discomfort as well. I'm waiting until some other medical issues are resolved before increasing the dose of anything.

Take care,

I get these too. My neuro called them, "Thunderclap Headaches". Really not nice. Didn't give me anything for them - I think he'll investigate further (MRI showed nothing).

I get these too. Especially when I'm tired. From my Googling they sound like 'ice pick headaches'. I wondered if they were related in anyway.

Not sure if i have the same thing or not.. I get these sharp, shooting piercing pains in my head. But mine are on the right side of my head. It is up higher than behind the ear. They literally make my eyes close..I have to stop whatever im doing when it happends. It is real quick. Like 5 seconds quick. Then its over. I have had these my whole life. I thought everyone got them.
