I just now just about swallowed my fingernail.

I am rambling on the computer drinking a diet coke from the can.  I took the can so I could take a drink and there was a round (about the size of a dime) thing that was purple with sparkles on it.  Oh my, my artificial fingernail came off and was on the top of the coke can right next to the "drinking hole."

It is kind of a you have to be there at the moment.  I thought if I had swallowed the fingernail, it probably would have gone right through me although it does have sharp edges.  I have probably swallowed worse things in my life, but I don't want this thing with all the chemicals, nail polish, and other stuff with it.  Now I wonder what I would have done if I had swallowed it and just realized what I'd done.  Be careful when you drink.  Lucy

Good thing you DIDN'T swallow it, Lucy!!   :o

That could be kinda tough to digest!

I guess it would depend on how it went down - straight down, or sideways.  What keeps going through my mind is that it might be similar to someone swallowing a bone (although bigger and made of acrylic).

If it didn't get stuck where you would need the Heimlich maneuver.  Too scary a scenario - I don't even want to think about that.

Glad you saw it before you ingested it!

If your real fingernail tore or was damaged, you may need to supplement with biotin. It was the supplement that caused me to over do when I started it for nail damage.

Ahh, i don't open soda cans with my 'nails'.

I use something to pry up the opener, or ask my husband.

They are wicked on 'nails'.

Glad you found it, sounds very glamorous, by the way.

Lucy,

Your experience with the fingernail made me think of something I had not thought of in years.   I quit smoking almost 31 years ago.  However, back when I did smoke I had a funny, yet dangerous experience.

I was all dressed up for my High School Reunion - long, slinky dress, hair all poofed up 80's style, and artificial nails for the first and last time of my life.  I was almost ready to leave and decided to have a cigarette and glass of Pepsi.  Imagine my horror when I see that my cigarette and my long, painted nail were lit.  That nail went up like gasoline.  Luckily I was drinking a glass of Pepsi and I dunked my beautiful nail deep into the glass to put out the flame.  After we realized I was okay, we nearly bust a gut laughing.
I put on another nail, poished it perfectly and off we went to the Reunion.

Everyone there thought I had the best husband in the world.  He even lit my cigarettes. lol

Let me add that one of the hardest and best things I ever was to STOP SMOKING!!  It's hard to imagine that I ever did smoke. As for the artificial nails - it was discovered that I was allergic to them. My nail beds were a mess for over two weeks.   So for over 30 years I have been artificial nail and cigarette free.

Blessings,
Jorja

I have been cigarette free since 11-13-89, almost as long as you.  I am fairly new to acrylic nails and hope to have them when I die.  My nails are very paper-like.  I used to chew thm to the quick.  When I have them maintained at $12/2 weeks or so I always have beautiful nails and they are tough.  I'm not bothered by hangnails now and I used to have them by the dozen.  Ouch.  I am glad I didn't swallow the one last night though.

Lucy,

My nails were the same way until my Neuro put me on a prescription kind of Vitamin for neuropathy.  I've watched in awe as my nails grew and got tough.  I now have to file them down each week . . . something I had never done in my life. The drug is Mentanx.

Blessings,
Jorja
