Hi All,
Can anyone relate?  I noticed (especially the last couple days) that when I wake up and go to take my first morning pee that my eyes dump out quite a bit of water/tears while I'm urinating.....more tears than supplied throughout the day!!!  Yesterday I believe they started running down my cheek.  So, being that I never paid attention to these things prior to SJS, is this something normal that when you wake up your glands wake up and begin to produce (I would think this is true to a certain extent) but it's almost like my eyes are getting a morning flood.  I would be happier if this tearing would be more evenly dispersed throughout the day   Please let me know if you guys find this happening to you first thing in the morning and mostly, during your first pee.  thanks!

No, I have never experienced that...yet. However I do envy your flood of tears, even if your peeing to get them. treasure and embrace those precious tears.

eye2dry hi!  You best believe I cherish this time....hahaha.....the excitement of a morning pee.....how these "normal" things make our day!!!!  Each day I thank the Lord when I wake up and I can see and get some saliva going.  I've had terrible back and leg problems for the past 2 weeks but now I'm having this flood in the morning....go figure?  This mystery sure jumps around our bodies, doesn't it?  When one thing seems to be going OK....something else begins to ache!!!

Since I am up about every hour to pee and change sleeping position, just peeing in the morning makes me green with envy.  Occasionally if the chick flick is heart warming enough, I have to blow my nose. Again the green.

I don't get that problem. My eyes are always bone dry in the morning and many times eyelids glued shut. That's great you get the tears, a least for a bit.  It's kind of sad that I can't "cry" anymore.

So sorry about your legs and back. I hope they get feeling better.

I have come to the conclusion that there is definitely a lot more rheumatism and arthritis in Sjs than anyone realizes.

Mystery is a great term to describe Sjs. It's ever changing!

I'm sending hugs your way that those aches and pains will feel better.  Of course, I mean feel better without "something else" taking its place.

sorry to report I had NO surge of tears during my first morning pee today   Perhaps I have been dreaming this whole thing up!!  I really thought it happened those two days.....I'll keep focusing....mind over matter.....determined to produce more tears!!

Not when I pee in the AM.

But I can recall a time when my eyes would tear during sleep and I'd wake up with burning, irritated skin around my eyes. This despite dry eyes during the day.

I don't think I was dreaming chick flicks.

I have tears running from my eyes sometimes..  But even with the tears it doesn't help the dryness of my eyes.. It feels like it just runs off and never touches them.. They still feel just as dry, gritty and burning as usual.. I guess it's because the glands in my eyes are blocked or just don't work and the tears have no oil in them like they should..

I get the streaming tears when I first lay down and first get up. They dont help at all with the dry eyes though. I was told that it is because I have the right amount of tears but they are not thick enough and just roll right on out. This is why a schwimmer's test can look ok, like you have enough tears but still have dry eyes. You can get drops that will help keep your eyes at a thicker viscosity.

Tears running down the cheek is a paradoxical symptom of dry eye. That symptom took me to the Sheie Eye Institute Eye Emergency Clinic, because the tears kept running all day for a day and a half.

For me, ultimately the immediate problem was Bell's Palsy, but if I understand correctly, almost anything that causes dry eye can have the added effect of overproduction of tears.

The upshot: See your ophthalmologist sooner rather than later.
