Hi  :)
On the "scaling Back for the Holidays" thread I wrote that unless the kids were coming home for Christmas I wasn't going to bother with it.

Well two have been in touch and are planning spending Xmas elsewhere. I do like seeing them but I'm also happy just having a quiet time with hubby and also the lack of hypocrisy for a fstival I don't believe in.

Tonight my youngest daughter was in touch. No - she's not coming for Christmas - but can she bring her new boyfriend and his 5yr old son for the New year????
I haven't met this man or his son. My oldest daughter has and says he's nice. Actually I'm not worried about him. I am a bit worried about a five year old and a house that has not been child proofed for years! now do I need to make the place look a bit festive? I suppose I could stick some balloons in his room. *sigh*

Take care - Scottie  :)

Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow!

Scottie, Buy a few pots of holly and stick them in several rooms and call it good.

It is heck to have to clean up for a boy friend isn't it. Thank goodness those days are over at my house. Now I just push it under the bed or in the closet and the DIL's just look the other way. IRish

Well, that sounds interesting!

I wouldn't worry about being "festive" if you don't want to. I think the fact that your daughter feels comfortable bringing her boyfriend and his son to your home means they may not expect anything but your good company.  ;)

Scottie - I wouldn't make a huge fuss.  Can you find some party horns or something to blow to welcome in the New Year?  (not sure if they will be there for the "actual" welcoming in of the New Year or after).

Childproofing your home for a 5 yr. old isn't the same as having a small, crawling infant (like your grandson would be).

Do you have a sleeping bag that maybe the little boy can sleep in on the floor?  He might like that - "camping out".

Do you have any small trucks or anything he can play with while he's there?  Or, if  you wanted to spend a few dollars you could buy him a truck/car for him to keep.

Just enjoy having your daughter home with her friends.
