Hi all,

Its after midnight and here I sit listening to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir...oh my, nirvana for my soul - so lets bring this topic back around again! :D

I love to listen to music and have a fondness for a wide range of artists and bands.  To give you some idea of my tastes, a few of my favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Black Sabbath, Eagles, Black Oak Arkansas, Aerosmith, Police, Queen, The Doors, War, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf,  Iron Butterfly, The Guess Who, The Who and Coven to mention just a dozen or so. :D

And for some of my favorite solo artists would be Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, Neil Diamond, Carol King, Phil Collins, Tina Turner, Waylon Jennings, Lulu, Freddy Quinn, Kenny Loggins, Bob Seger, Julio Iglesias and can't forget Elvis. :)  Can you tell I could go on for ever listing my favorites? ;) ;D

Now for all those that grew up with "heavy (acid) metal" and even for those that didn't, what song, songs, album tug your heart strings?  Or maybe a solo artist or twenty? :)

Patze,

Such a good idea!  You sound like a woman of my own heart.

I love the Eagles old music, and the old rock bands you mentioned.  I love symphony music, and alternative stuff, and pretty much everything.  ;)  My younger son has a band that plays blues and rock; I love it!

Hey, how about the Doobie Brothers? They were back in the band age you mention?

Moving to Ky, seemed like I just had to start listening to more country... ;) I like some of the new ones like Jason Aldean and I have a new affection for Trace Adkins.  My son-in-law and his Mom danced to "You're Gonna Miss This" at he and our daughter's wedding...no dry eyes!  :'(

OK - I went and grabbed a big stack of CD's off the shelf - here's whats in this stack:

The Greatest Hits 1976 - with great songs like, Boggie Fever, The Rubberband Man, You Sexy Thing, Afternoon Delight, I'd Really Love To See You Tonight, Still the One, All By Myself, Dream Weaver  - to name some.

Billboards Top Rock n' Roll Hits 1968-1972 - with songs like:  (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, Green Tambourine, Cry Like A Baby, Yummy Yummy Yummy, Dizzy, Sugar Sugar, Crimson and Clover, Take A Letter Maria, I Think I Love You, Joy To The World (Three Dog Night) - not the Christmas song  ;), Knock Three Times, I Can See Clearly Now, etc.

Other CD's - The Beatles, The Monkees, Today's Country Gospel, Christmas Memories - Favorite Holiday Songs from the 1950's, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, A Country Christmas.

More CD's - American Classics & Music Legends with Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Rod Stewart, Patsy Cline, Louis Armstrong, Buddy Holly; Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, The Statler Brothers, Bing Crosby (Christmas album), Brooks & Dunn, Christmas Classics with Michael Bolton, Neil Diamond, Gloria Estefan, Kenny Loggins, Aaron Neville, The Beach Boys.

A Christmas CD with the song, "Mary, Did You Know?" - this one sung by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna.  I love that song!

Yup - the list goes on and on.  What I tune into on the car radio is Light Rock or Country.

The best part of garage saling - finding all these great CD's for 25c to $1.00 a piece.   ;D

Looove your taste in music. 70s fan here with a bit of the 60s and 80s in there as graduated in 1975.      For relaxation I usually go just instrumental and like the Celtic music. Most of the 70s music gets me going too much. LOL :D

I get a laugh when I tell some of the younger folks at work some of the titles back then. Remember "Turning Japanese", "Brand New Key", "Ring my Bell", and "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" to name a few. LOL  Some of the country titles were pretty funny too - not as interesting today though.

I must live in the wrong area as around here, you don't see much on 70s music at garage sales. Most of it is more modern stuff. Though I've found baby lulluby CDS for future baby gifts.

I think that we all must be around the era, I have some of those. But my best of all favorites in U2  ;D

Does anybody know who Glenn Miller is?????

I recognize and like a lot of the music mentioned but I still like a lot of the stuff that was long before my time. I just love music and most of it.

Went out to eat at Famous Daves tonight and in the womens restroom they had some good blues playing. Not normal music for the midwest but sounded great.

The swing bands of the 40's had some great music that is really great for listening or dancing. Also, anyone know who Ray Coniff is?? Great chorus music from the 60's.  Elvis is forever and so is Neil Diamond--the beat in his music and there is a subtle sound to his music that is very distinctive.

Amazing how all this music is made from just that small number of black and white keys, Irish ;D

Irish,

I know who Glenn Miller is, but that music is way before your time! Good music, though.  I also have an appreciation for those who can play the piano so well.

Glad you got out for dinner; hope you enjoyed!

Patze

Oh my, ah, back down memory lane!  Sure do love the Doobie Brothers Meld, and how about Three Dog Night (remember "Never Been to Spain")?

Gosh Irish, I must have more than a hundred CDs and I grew up hearing C&W along with the big bands so I guess thats where my love of music came from (didn't hurt that I had some "hippies" that lived near me for a couple of years while growing up :D).

Aren't the Blues great??  I've listened to it since childhood and man, can't get enough!  Not really obvious is it? ;)

The only music that I'm not a fan of is Jazz (got burned out of it by having a former coworker that adored it and thought that everyone else should too). ::)

Awwww Cheryl, U2!  How about "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"?  Whew, gotta dig out that CD!  Now where in the heck did I put it (Joshua Tree I think is the title of that CD)??

Pisces, I always knew that you are a kindred soul (I graduated in '77)!  I always found titles (songs) to be some of the most hilarious things (Freddy Quinn's "What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor", Melody's "Brand New Key", Born In East L.A. by Cheech & Chong to mention a few) !  You're so right about a lot of this originating from those two little keys and for that I'm most grateful, but if it comes to listening to solo instrumentals, I prefer flute and drum solos more...they soothe my head.

Okay my fellow time travelers, what song revs you up?  One of mine is Kenny Logan's "Danger Zone" - it "revs me up" in the am like no other (yeah I know, goofy! ;) :D).

Y'all take care now -

The one that revs me up is "Twillight Zone" by an old British band I can't remember the name. It is odd because it is way out of what my taste in music generally is.  I also like "Center Field" and I wish they would play that on Monday mornings as I need the reving up then.  ::)

Glen Miller is on par with Les Brown and his band of reknown. I don't know much 40s stuff as my folks were Grand Old Opry fans. I cracked up my friends once singing "Bessie the Heifer, the Queen of all the Cows".  ;D The music today just isn't a lot of fun anymore.  :(

Patze

Hi Pisces,

Do you mean John Fogerty's version of "Centerfield"?  Loved it!

Yep, and I was another one that "had" to listen to the Grand Ole Opry & Hew Haw; my gosh, it wasn't until I was around eight that I realized that there was a lot more music out there than just C&W (that was also thanks to an older sibling...just could never tell the parental units though)! :D
