Hello my lovely friends

I have been out of the country for the past week, and haven't been able to contact my sister for an update. I know that Ben was having his wounds dresssed again on Wednesday, but know nothing further - although I'm sure I would have heard if anything was amiss.

I'm sure to speak with my sister tomorrow, so I will give you an update as soon as I have one.

Thank you again for keeping Ben in your prayers. He certainly needs them, and will do for some time to come.

God bless.

Thanks for the note.  I realize you have other things to do other than update us here!

I hope you have had a good week out of the country, and will look forward to your update whenever it's possible.
Blessings,
Melinda

Hi Melinda and all

I've spoken with my sister today; Ben had to have some more surgery on one of his leg wounds on Thursday, and it went well. Hopefully, it will start to heal now. He also needs a procedure to catheterise his kidney(?) as his bladder isn't healing. The pelvic frame is still in place, which means that Ben has spent the last four weeks on his back. His right hand is very seriously injured, but he does have his thumb, which is a blessing. He is in good spirit, and knows that you lovely people are praying for him, which he greatly appreciates.

My sister and her dh have gone home for the weekend, as they have to see their GP tomorrow about notes for work. On the surface they are coping, but scratch that surface even slightly and they are in bits. They will be going back to the hospital to stay with Ben on Wednesday. In the meantime, his partner and baby are with him.

We are so grateful that Ben has got this far and know that he has the strength to make the most of his life when he leaves the hospital/rehab unit. We know that his parents will get through this, but they still need your prayers and positive vibes.

God bless
Kathyx

Thanks for the update.

Sending all positive vibes I can.

Ben has a hard road ahead but he's not on his own. Hopefully he will get the support from the organisations that are out there to help in his situation and also from young men who are also going through the same thing.
Some of those organisations may well offer support to his parents as well.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Kathyx - thanks for the update on Ben.

I'm sure the baby is good medicine for Ben right now.

Continued prayers for Ben and family still coming.

Thanks for the update, Kathy.

I hope his leg wound begins to heal better, and all goes well with his procedure on his bladder. Four weeks on his back; we can hardly imagine how hard all this has been on him, his partner and his dear parents.

That is good that he still has his thumb on his hand. It can be amazing what people can do with just that.

Our nephew had a best friend seriously injured in the war 2 years ago; he was 21. Doctors were unsure if he would survive the first 2 months after. He also had a long haul to recovery but has done remarkably well with the support of his family, wife and little boy.

These are strong and determined young men.  I feel Ben will be as determined as he goes through this long process of recovery and living his new life. My continued prayers go out to him, his parents and your family.
Take care of yourself, dear.

Thank you my lovely friends

Ben has had a good week. HIs bladder/kidney surgery went well, and his wounds are healing. We are all so relieved.

My sister and her husband have asked me to thank you all for your prayers - they appreciate them more than they can say.

I am so glad Ben has had a good week, that his bladder/kidney surgery went well, and his wounds are healing.  I'm sure you're so relieved!  This is good news.

Please tell your sister and husband we all have times in our lives that we need prayers from others. Just my personal opinion, but I think supporting one another is a way to show God's love.  One of the reasons we are put here-to help one another.

Continued prayers and positive thoughts,
Melinda

Hi Folks

Not been around much this week, but just popping in to let you know that Ben has reached a landmark this week: six weeks on and he has been given an electric wheelchair! He still has the frame supporting his pelvis, so he can't physically get in or out of the chair himself, but it has given him a new lease of life - he's been as far as the Costa Coffee inthe hospital, which is a good start.

My youngest son and his wife have been down to Birmingham today to visit Ben. They were full of trepidition and, although they were shocked at how frail Ben is, they are very happy to have seen him. They said Ben's determination is showing through, and although  has a lot of anger to come to terms with, they have no doubt he will overcome that, and get on with his life.

BTW the hospital padre said mass with Ben and his immediate family today. I wish I could have been there. Anyway, the more prayers the better.

Thank you so much for caring about Ben - it really does mean a lot.

Yay for Ben!!  He's in my thoughts and meditations!  I'm a military brat - my dad was injured in Vietnam but not seriously.  I hope he gets the emotional treatment he needs.

That's wonderful that he has an electric wheelchair.  Even though he's not able to get in and out of the chair on his own right now - with time, he will.

Probably the hardest part for him is all the little baby steps it requires for him to be on the road to recovery.  His injuries are not a quick fix . . . it will take time for his injuries to heal.

I'm glad your son and his wife were able to spend time with Ben.  I can only imagine all the images that run through your head when you hear the stories of Ben's accident, and then to actually see him in person.  I'm sure it was good medicine for all of them.

I know six weeks sounds like an eternity to Ben and your family - but, really, it hasn't been that long.  He's come a long way since he first arrived there.  Serving in a military position is not for sissies  . . . I'm sure Ben has the stamina to go the long haul.  We're right here supporting him in the journey.  Our continued best wishes to Ben and your family.

Thanks for the update.
