Hi  :)

I'm posting this in here because it's not about Sjogren's and it's not about me.

I was 'talking' (MSN) to my son last night. He has Crohn's disease. Last week he got bitten by a cat, was given oral antibiotics the next day but ended up in hospital that night needing IV antibiotics. I guess Humira makes him really prone to infections.

Well he got home and was given Augmentin to take. Yesterday he broke out in hives all over so he is now on something different and also on Benadryl.

I'm not familiar with Augmentin so I looked it up. He used to be fine with Amoxycillin when he was a kid so I wonder if it is the other med within Augmentin that has caused the reaction. So saying - I had a really bad reaction to flucloxicillin earlier this year having always been alright with penicillins for the last 59 years!

Have any of you had similar experiences?

Thanks - Scottie  :)

Hi Scottie,  ;)

I'm sorry to hear your son has had such problems lately.  It may very well be the Augmentin. If he's always been alright taking amoxycillin, it may that he's having a side effect to the clavulanate that's in the Augmentin.

I've not had any personal experience with side effects with this.  I hope they find why he's broken out in hives.  He's had quite a week; poor guy! Hope he can begin to feel better soon.
Take care, and keep us posted.

Hi Scottie,

I'm sorry to hear about your son too; wow, when it rains it sure does pour on him.

Kidlet always breaks out with hives when given any med with sulfa in it, and I can no longer take a med within the Doxycycline family (I don't develop hives, but get terrible itching and also put on Benadryl for a week to stop it).

Next time you talk to him, pass them my best.

Take care lady -

Patze
