Anyone use a Tracfone?

Hi - our family has been a Tracfone user for years and years.  Within the last couple days my phone battery (which is ? yrs. old - I'm guessing at least four, if not more) won't hold a charge.  Since my phone is an older model and I'm having difficulty finding a replacement battery - plus, it would cost a whole lot more to buy just the battery than it would to buy a whole new phone - I'm thinking of getting a new phone.

Does anyone use the Tracfone LG 420G or the Samsung T155G?  The phone I have now is an LG (don't know the model number), and I really like it - would like to get something similar to it.  I don't need all the "bells and whistles", I just need a phone that will send and receive calls and text messages.  I don't need a camera, internet access, and all the extras.  Just a plain 'ole simple phone.   

I've checked online at the Tracfone site, and the above models are what are available for my area (plus several "bells and whistle" models, which I don't need).

Anybody have any input on these models?

Here's another idea you might find helpful.  My husband and I recently bought phones from Walmart.  It's called StraightTalk. They have phones you buy outright from the store; they come either very simple or to everything, from $30-$100 (the higher priced have all the bells and whistles).

StraightTalk is part of Tracfone. I saw online today the phone I got is on sale for $30, an LG420 and it works great. I actually have better coverage/service than with my old phone. You just buy the phone and a service card, and you are set to go.

It's amazing and inexpensive!  You buy the phone, and a card and you're good to go. You buy a service card from either the store or online once every 30 days.  The cards are different prices, but we get the cheapest.  It's $30 for 1,000 minutes unlimited times, etc. and text and online use. The next one up is $45 for all unlimited for 30 days. We've cut our cell costs from our old T-mobile bill and I'm thrilled.

You can also buy the phone online, the card and have it set up to pay for the card every 30 days online, too.  We usually just call and use a debit to refill it. No driving to the store.

Bucky, We just got rid of our other carrier last fall and got the Tracfone and so far I am happy. We did it to cut costs. We both have the LG420G and are happy with it. It does have a few more bells and whistles than our carrier did but we don't use them. It does have a camera which means next to nothing to me.

The main thing is that it is so much cheaper than our contracted carrier. So far we are way money ahead. I think that Staight Talk is probably cheaper, but it had not been out that long so I didn't feel comfortable going with it. The Tracfone has done well for us. We paid 19.95 for the phone on sale with coupons for double minutes etc that were good for over a year.

The Tracfone has done well as far as not fading out, etc. The only problem that I have so far is that I can't use it in the grocery store sometimes as I don't get a signal. It could be because of all the clouds and electrical activity in the area also. Don'e know how the other carriers can do business with these cheaper phones around. Irish

Yo Bucky!  Nah, don't have a Tracphone (just bought a parental unit one and they love it.  Now to get them to turn the darn thing on! ). 

Even though I have a contract, I just may have to get one (sure would be cheaper! ).  Oh, love LG, seem to never have had a problem with any of them I've had over the years.
