Honey and cinnamon?

I was at the pharmacy yesterday to get gummy vitamins (yes, they have them for adults now so I don't have to take kids ones, my stomach can't take regular ones) and needed fish oil also.  I decided to ask the pharmacist which he thought best, fish oil or flaxseed oil.  He said fish oil.  I told him I had dry eyes from SS and he said "oh fish oil won't help that.  You need honey and cinnamon."  I guess I gave him a blank stare and he said "one teaspoon of honey and one cinnamon capsule.  You can get cinnamon in a capsule."

I thought, what the heck.  They are not too expensive and can't hurt you (he did ask if I was diabetic and I am not, so he said OK)  I got some honey but thought I have cinnamon at home and it seems the stuff in the capsules was just the spice, so I am just using that.  I never heard about that on any SS site, have any of you?  I will let you know if I have any good results, would be great if I did!

Rose, I am diabetic so I do not take the honey. I did take Cinnamon but now I take Cinculin. If you are not taking D3 your may want to consider it. Also R-lipoic acid and Aceytl L carnitine may help.

Hi Rose,

So, I was just searching on the benefits of honey and cinnamon and I didn't find anything on helping dry eyes.  However, I did find a website on the 10 health benefits of cinnamon.

It said that 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and 1 tablespoon of honey every morning before breakfast will significantly reduce arthritis pain in one week.  So who knows.  Sounds like it's worth a shot.

Good Luck,

Honey = sugar = sjogrens trigger and inflammatory for joints ....

Hi  :)

This is not something I've seen on the boards before but I have read about cinnamon being helpful in realation to autoimmune thyroid conditions.
My opthamologist told me to take fishoil. Not one capsule a day - but 3 capsules a day and I really think it has helped. (3x1000mg)

Lemon and ginger help to stimulate saliva. I often drink a lemon/ginger infusion which is very refreshing.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I've mixed honey & cinnamon & put on my hands when they used to ache!

But I don't eat them. I take fish oil 2x a day & flaxseed oil at bedtime.

I am wondering now if he just heard Sjogrens and thought about joint pain (and not that I was mentioning dry eyes).  Anyway for either issue, I am trying it.  And as far as the honey = sugar, that will be about the least thing I eat that has sugar!  I have not given up sugar at all, so I can just cut one little bit of bad sweet, to try this.

Hi Rose,

In case/ you're interested, my optometrist recommended taking Omega 3 oil.  He also wrote me a Rx for Restasis.

Thanks TJMAC for that website.  Seems like honey and cinnamon can help a lot of issues.  Showed it to a friend of mine and hubby and they both want to try it too for their issues.

This is going to sound " nuts " but I did the honey & cinnamon last nite before going to bed. This morning I had no redness and my eyes did not feel quite a dry.  I was actually surprised how good my eyes felt.

Maybe.... just a coincidence ??????

My opthamologist also recommended Omega 3 Oil (4 X 1000mg) and also ground flax seed.  I use the flax seed as a seasoning or flavoring on everything from veggies to  salads to cottage cheese...I add it to my peanut butter and to my oatmeal and also when fixing casseroles and baked beans..  It is even good on ice cream (reduced fat no sugar added of course).  I  also think it has helped.  (Plus, my HDL is higher than it's ever been - 53 last test - before it was always around 38).

Lemon and ginger help to stimulate saliva..-Scottietottie

Hey, maybe that's why I like a lemon wedge in a glass of water!   I didn't know it would help stimulate saliva.  I'll have to try the ginger.  How do you fix your "infusion"?

Scottietottie

Hi Jason  :)

I live in the UK and a firm called Twinings does a lemon/ginger 'infusion' which I buy from the supermarkrt in the 'tea' section. They can't call it 'tea' because it has no tea in it. It comes in things like tea-bags however.
