I am recycling my 27 year old sofa!!!

Has anyone ever had a sofa that they just loovvvved? Well, I have one from 1984 that is brown and full of color and flowers. It is so well built and has an aluminum frame so it is easy to move around. It is also not big and bulky so that is another plus.

The poor thing has been sitting in our living room ( which is never used except for company and holidays because that is where the dining room table is ---- under the pile of junk that I sort through every so ofte.lol)

Anyway, we added a "porch" as we call it between the house and the garage a few years ago and had to put a door in the wall which really interfered with our u shaped sectional sofa. I have been moving it (the u shaped sectional soafa) around---with the pieces split up here and there for the past 4 years. It has looked terrible and the whole room has made me uneasy. You know the uneasy that comes when your "nest" just isn't quite right.

This summer with the heat just about drove me over the edge cause the room is just a mess and I have been so embarrassed. Be patient cause you know me---this is gonna be long!!!! Hubby was attached to that sectional sofa and thought it was the best thing since 7 minute frosting. I loved the sofa too, but I was willing to sell the darn thing and make some changes.

Well, there was an epiphany last night as I said there was no way I wanted this arrangement still here in 2 weeks when the relatives come from ARizona. Hubby FINALLY got the picture. Today, after much discussion we went shopping and bought him a new recliner and I moved the old sofa into the family room. He called our oldest son who came over and helped us move the sectional out onto the porch all piled up in a corner. My "nest" is finally better now.

This is the sofa that is just wonderful for naps. There are the best supportive cushions on this sucker and I have refused to part with it cause I told the family that I would need it in my old age. Soooo, my house looks a lot better and it feels more like home than it has in 4 years.

Oh, our microwave died 2 days ago and I had to get a new one of those. I bought the last one 10 years ago at Target and it took me hours to find one that would work in my space. I was dreading this ordeal today knowing what we went through before. Sooo, went to Target, took electric cart back to housewares and lo and behold there was another microwave exactly like the one I bought 10 years ago. Exactly like it!!

Now, did the factory make a million extra of this brand cause it was so good, or have they had a million of them laying around the USA that they have had a heck of a time getting rid of? All I know is I had one like it, didn't know how to do anymore than push the minutes---no fancy finger work from me---bought the same kind and know how to work it.lol Plus, the darn thing was about 40$ cheaper than it was 10 years ago. Weird or what!!!! Oh, and it wasn't even dusty!!

Good on ya Irish there is nothing like a good spring clean in Summer, out with the old and in with the new, makes you feel just wonderful.

Oh, Irish.........I am up at 4 a.m. and came upon your sofa post.  I am trying to think of how old my sofa is and it is for sure 20+ a little, although not 27.  It is a well made, name brand (forget) solid sofa.  I remember getting it and was afraid because it was pastel colors and I was afraid of spills, etc. even though our only kid was 20 or so. lol.

Well, since my "illness" got bad some years back and I left work 6 years or so ago, I have spent a good portion of every day on this couch, year after year.  I have no room to move it,  It's either a new sofa or this one.  Hubby said the other day, boy those cushions are really squashed on the couch.  I said that I knew they were also and it was because of my fat duff lying full out for hours a day.  He didn't disagree.

I want a new sofa, but until I can shake more of this stuff I have, i will keep this one so I can't be blamed on ruining a new sofa. lol. How can one tell these things?  You just can't.  If we will be able to get the use of a new sofa, we'd best not wait too long or we'll just leave that to our daughter along with house and everything else.  Glad you got more use out of your old sofa.  Lucy

I have that same couch. But it came from 1968. It looks brand new, even though it has been through heck and back. Wool covering!!!!!

It's in my new living room, which I call the Waiting Room, as it is waiting to be furnished properly.

Irish - good for you!!  I'm glad you like your new arrangement and that the sofa is still in the family, just in a different location.   

It's hard to find real quality furniture (or anything for that matter) any more.

We have a double reclining sofa that is ?? yrs. old (I don't remember) - my husband has sat and snoozed (he'll deny it) on one end so much, that the cushion is thin, the arm is tearing, and it kinda sits crooked from him laying in it so much.  It doesn't have a lever to put the recliner part up or down, so you have to use man power (legs) to do it.  Some times it takes three tries to get the crazy thing down.

The middle seat and the opposite end seat are in perfect shape - probably been sat on less than a dozen times.  Wish there was some way to cut off the part where hubby reclines as it makes the whole sofa look bad.     The part that makes me mad the most is I paid for this sofa with my own money I had gotten as a gift.  Now, it's ruined.  Men!

Enjoy your new microwave too!!  Hopefully, the same microwave is more energy efficient than the ones they manufactured 10 yrs. ago.

I'm so glad your nest feels more "homey"  Just moving a few things sometimes makes so much difference!

We had a sofa that was over 20 years old we left in Ohio when we moved here to Ky.  My husband said it was the best "napping couch" ever, but it was old and very worn and since we had one truck we rented to move ALL the big stuff there really wasn't room to bring it. We came here with ONE chair. About 2 weeks after we moved, his aunt and uncle bought new living room furniture and asked us if we wanted their older sofa and matching chair.  Yes!! They were navy with huge pink flowers all over  I found some nice taupe covers and they look awesome, and nap well, too.

That's amazing that you found exactly the same model of microwave!  Maybe it was a very popular one.  The important thing is you got want you wanted. Good for you.
