The Royal Wedding?

I am just curious if people in this group, especially our friends in England, are planning on watching the wedding tomorrow?  It seems you can not get away from the news coverage. 

Anyway, I am getting all caught up in it just like I did 30 years ago when Charles and Diana got married.  I was 17 years old and woke up extra early before work to see the wedding.  (I am in Massachusetts, USA so I have to set my alarm for 5:00 in the morning.)  Now at 47, I find myself doing it again!!!  Am I crazy?

I actually got out my mother's recipe for tea scones (which are probably too dry for me to eat)  and am planning on making them this afternoon so I can have tea and scones as I watch the wedding!!

I'm in England and I'm sure I'll see the wedding because there will be nothing else on TV. I'm not a royalist though and couldn't care less about it. Like any young couple - I hope they'll be happy but the news coverage really gets on my nerves.

I won't see the actual wedding because I'll be asleep!

I am in England too and we will probably watch some of it on the TV.
It will be nice to have an extra day off work.
The coverage starts at 6.30 in the morning which is rather early on a bank holiday.
My son Daniel is nine and his best friend Phoebe, was in floods of tears today at the schools street party for the wedding.
I asked my son why she was so upset, apparently she has always wanted to marry Prince William and can't stand Kate, it is very hard being nine !
Anyway I guess there is still Prince Harry.

Like Scottie, this Canadian is not really into the monarchy either.  I'll actually be glad when it's over.  I guess that won't be for some time however because Kate and William will be in Canada for 10 days of their honeymoon.

I'm not getting up early to watch the wedding.  I think it would be around 4:30 a.m. here.

It's a shame how much publicity and such this event draws.  I would not want to be Prince William or Kate - to have the paparazzi following them everywhere they went.  Price William grew up with that - and it took his mother's life being hounded by the cameramen.   

I'm sure I will "see" the wedding at some point tomorrow - but, I'm not going to witness it first hand early in the morning.

I have never been much for any form of pomp and circumstance so I will try my hardest to avoid it. I do wish any young couple a long and happy marriage. That and new births are a sign of hope for the future.

Okay I am being really snobby, but I could careless about the royal wedding. This world is going down the drain and there are people without jobs, homes, money, food and insurance. Kids are going hungry and the elderly are being neglected, so I don't feel like an expensive wedding with a wacky family is what I really want to watch.

I did google her dress to see what the big fuss was about and it reminded me of Grace Kelly's dress. No, I was not alive when that wedding happened, but when she died I watch all about her including her wedding.
Her dress was beautiful...
I did google the kiss and come on they should have been a little more fun! Yep Americans we expect more.

I'm in the UK, and didn't watch the wedding live, as I'm not a royalist, but I have to admit to feeling a bit teary when I saw them leaving the Abbey. They looked so much in love. I wish them all the luck in the world.

I'm in Sydney, Australia and the wedding was on at a great time for us, with the TV coverage starting at 4pm going through to about 11pm. It was hard to avoid on TV, we have 5 free to air TV stations and 3 were showing the whole event while 1 other stayed until their Friday night Football programming started.

I told the family at the beginning of the week that I will be taking over the TV - I watched the whole thing, loved the pomp and ceremony that the only the Brit's can do.

I must admit, I had a tear in my eye at the start of the Ceremony - thinking of Diana too -  it must have been hard for William to be married in the same church as his mother's funeral.

She looked gorgeous, he looked great. Some of the guests should've looked again in the mirror before they bought their outfit.

Hope they have a long and happy life together.

I was up early getting ready for work, so I actually caught part of it on tv...but most of my "watching" has been through online pics and videos and broadcasts after the fact on tv.

They are a beautiful young couple just starting out and I wish them the best of luck!

I didn't sleep much that night and turned on TV around 5AM and there was all that stuff going on. I watched it and found it rather interesting. There was a lot of things going on and it seemed very well organized.

The thing that I enjoyed was the fact that the couple seemed to be very mature and at ease. I also heard that William had told some of the press not to treat Kate the way they did his mother. I thought that was a very "manly" thing for him to do.

I also heard that they did not spend nearly as much money as they could have and were very aware of the cost. I was also glad to hear that they cancelled the honeymoon until later and he went back to work on Monday. I bet they were both exhausted and just wanted to rest up, read the paper and watch movies on TV like the rest of us.

Honeymoons are like vacations, cost money and can be exhausting trying to get all the sight seeing, etc.

I thought her dress was one of the most beautiful dresses I had seen. The top was very pretty and the flow of the skirt and trane (sp) was beautiful. I sound like I have nothing else to do with my life. Some days that is true. Irish

You sound like me, irish. I didn't sleep that night at all, so I was up for the wedding and then got really interested in it all.

Maybe it was the fact it's a break from all the horrible news we see, and our aches and pains. I enjoyed it, it was all beautiful and they looked so happy and in love. I was a little impressed, too, that they tried to keep some costs down, comparably speaking!
The huge trees for the abbey were in pots and will be planted back in the ground, and lots of the flowers were still a plant, not cut, so it could be grown again. It was all donated to charities, nursing homes, etc. which I thought was quite nice.
I liked hearing the history of the coach, and Kate's tiera, as I said I really got into it!    I won't be buying any commemorative plates or anything but it was a romantic escape.

Sorry to be another Brit who couldn't care less but I've never been a royalist and the wedding didn't change that.  Like the others, I wish them all the best for a happy life but I hope that for every couple taking the brave step of getting married.

This country is facing the biggest welfare cuts in our history, while wealth flows from the poorest to the richest (many of whom were there at the wedding).  That's a factual comment, not a political statement!

So I'm sorry if I sound hard hearted but I didn't switch on the TV for one second of the wedding pomp.  But it's good to read the variety of comments here - just one of the many things that makes SjS World an interesting place to be!

I can surely understand your viewpoint, Chickpea, and other Brits, too.  I've read about the cuts and tuition hikes, etc.

Just like here in states, our economy is horrible. Jobs are hard to find, social service groups are stretched to the limits, food pantrys are busier than ever. It's a bad state of affairs.
I can understand why you wouldn't be interested in such a show of wealth and excess.
