Howdy,

My Fail Safe thing that makes me perk up is funny b&w musicals!
Like that Make em Laugh scene in Dancing in the Rain... physical comedy.

What is a Fail Safe you have in your bag o tricks?

Have a great week!

Every day I think of at least 3 things for which I'm thankful - they can be small things or huge things, doesn't matter. When I think of them, I linger in these thoughts about how lucky I am to be able to enjoy the life I have. I don't compare myself to others who appear to have it all nor do I allow negative thoughts during this "thankful" session. It helps me feel uplifted and provides me positive energy to deal with reality.

MUSIC!  I like silence but often put music on when working with kids or doing housework to liven the mood.  Before I know it I am dancing, so it must give me more energy.

I call it looking for the violets.  I just try to find something everyday to be thankful for.  I'm thankful for many things everyday.  My God, ,my family, my home...

But I try to pop up something new every day.  It's not the cure all to our conditions but it helps.  Just something to make me smile.

Because I'm affected to the point of disability, I'm thankful and perked up if I get supper cooked or a load of clothes washed.   :D

Spending a little time with my son everyday.  He is 17 now so he isn't 'needy' for his mommy anymore lol so I make it a point to just hang out with him for a bit every day.  Sometimes that may mean me just sitting there watching him play video games and chatting but every minute is precious.  Ever since I got sick, I never take things like that for granted.

Good thread, paperdoll  :D :D

We need support and encouragement in what helps us in our daily lives. So, one of my helps is coming here and sharing!

Another is taking a few minutes everyday and feeling blessed for what I have; my faith, my family, my friends.

Kim, I like what you say "looking for the violets".  ;)  I also am disabled to the point that making dinner or laundry is a big feat many days! And I've started quilting.  It keeps my mind off the aches, and I feel creative.  I didn't have the time to do when I was still working, so I am blessed that now I have time on my side!

I've always wanted to quilt--true tiny stitch hand quiliting--I have friends that do beautiful work.  But it's a patience thing.  I am however, trying to pick up some old hobbies such as crochet, knitting and embroidary.  I have problmes with fine motor skills so its slow going.

And how"s this for faith--I headed to the grocery store this morning even though it is a really rough day.  As I was turning the truck around I glanced out the window.  There popping up through the mud on the side of the drive way was one solitary, dark purple violet.  God was telling me he'd get me there and back.

Keep looking for the violets.

My perk-up for a glum day or any day is to have the time to wind down. To have some peace and quiet time for reflection, meditation, gratitude and maybe grab a good book.

Kim, I love your story of finding your violet popping out of the mud!  :)

It gave me a chill...that's what I call a "God Thing".  I know many don't believe the same, but I have many days when something out of the blue happens to make me smile or just get me through the day and I know God is watching over me.

BYW, I don't know if I'll ever get to the true, tiny, hand-stitching with my quilts. I machine-pieced the first one, and tacked it together.  But it looks pretty good (if I do say myself)  ;D  Quilting is something I can do alone in my peace and quiet, while hubby is at work or asleep.  It's something I really enjoy, and I can work on it when I feel like it. I might go a week with no sewing and then sew for hours days on end.
Embroidery was an old hobby for me, then I got busy with kids, work and life. Now I'm 55, kids are grown, no longer working and have some time, so I might pick that up again, too!
Take care and keep looking for those violets!

One and only

Watching my Dogwoods coming out of there winter hibernation and starting to bloom, along with my hostas, watching teh robins fighting over some silly little place to build a nest, almost overnight the woods have greened up,, and I;m hearing Tom turkeys calling hens,
I think of my sons and how well they have done in there lives, my oldest was asked to move to Charlotte to run the enginerring dept down there for westinghouse nuclear division, my youngest works for westinghouse also, and i;d like to think I had a lot onhow they managed to get that far, I pushed them, let them lean on me when times got bad for them, and I think I knew just what to say to get that smile from them,
Michael is concerened about moving,, hes worried about me, but I just told him, Mike I;m not going to live forever, and you cant build a carreer looking over your shoulder while your trying to move forward,, he agreed,

I've enjoyed watching the dogwoods bloom here in KY, too, along with my hostas coming up and green leaves on the trees.

One and Only, I'm sure you've had a lot to do with both your sons' successes. As you say, you pushed them, gave them support and encouragement. I would guess you taught them honesty and character, too.

That's a loving son who is concerned about moving away from his dad, but as you say, they can't live their lives for us, they need to go on and do their own thing.  My youngest son lives in Kansas, which is way too far away for his momma's liking; we are close and I miss him. But, he's a good man and he's happy, so that's really all I've ever wanted for him.

Skylar this is wonderful!  I needed that! Inspiring!  I think thankful is a better word for me, because I am grateful for good things.

I'll share that when I cannot sleep I got through a list of everything I am grateful for - even if it is my soft pillow... until I fall asleep and just find myself waking up in the morning.

Kim this is a wonderful mindful statement!
It also can be challenging for me to get a whole supper of a load of clothes washed.
Thank you!

Thank you season for sharing!
I just bought a few books from a bookestore, they also sell lightly used books... so I feel like a Queen getting 4 at once. ;)
My process is that I am attempting at booking out time for "reflection, meditation, gratitude and maybe grab a good book." on my calendar.
I've found that if I am worn out I'm no good to myself of anyone I love.
